They've ditched zeropods but developed the good ideas behind it to this new approach with an elongated but low sidepod and cannon exits.
Let's just call it the halfpod and be done with this argument.

Clearly they have slightly more volume overall than last season, but still way less than the other teams.
Some are calling it not zeropods to have the gotcha the zeropods was a failure argument

The launch car has cable floor stays on it. The rendered images don’t. It’ll be interesting to see if the floor on the launch car is last years and the stays will go in Bahrain.

Several posts discussing what to call the sidepods when you're clearly not going to agree.
How about everyone calls them what they like and move on to more interesting subjects?

No, the sidepods are neither small, niether large, they are normal sized sidepods only vertical. Hence Verti-pods is the most accurate word to use on describing the Mercedes' sidepods.

Very interesting! Thanks. That makes it more clear as to what they have done. The floor should be much better supported now. It's almost similar to the rival cars now as to where the sidepod intersects with the floor towards the rear of the car.

This isn't true. You need to differentiate between inlet size and sidepod size. The inlet may very well be the same size as other teams, but the overall volume of the sidepod is certainly smaller. Though larger than the W13.

Absolutely not. Sidepods are clearly visible from the front, top and the sides. From the top you can even clearly see their shape from front to rear. Thats not Zeropods.

Look at the image directly above your post. Sidepods are clearly visible from front to back. Also they are much wider at the bottom than at the top. If these are zeropods, then the concept is already old, because then heavily undercut side boxes were also zeropods, just the other way around. From the front, you can see not a small, very high inlet - with the best will in the world, this no longer has anything to do with Zeropods.

I think no one disagrees with that. But they are too big to be called Zeropods now. Also flowstructure will be different.
Sonewhere in between last years and big pods. Sorry but thats not Zeropods anymore. They are just too big now. Just look at the big inlet in the image above! And how you can clearly see the sidepod from front to back....

There was quite a bit said by Mercedces last year about the W13 having a fundamental design error they didn't catch, and were unable to fix in that car.

Do we know what that was, and if the W14 addresses it?

They’re pods at the side of the car, let’s just call them sidepods…can’t believe I’ve allowed myself to be drawn into this and also contributed to the problem.

With the disclaimer this could just be a fake launch floor, I find the lingering presence of the clipped floor "foot" a bit concerning.

That was introduced as a trial item at Spa last year and consequently kept but it always felt like a bit of a move of desperation to me, to limit some of the floor contact with the track around the diffuser. I don't think any other team runs it.
