Great comparison. The Aston is able to put the power down sooo early. Part of it due to Alonso breaking early and his entry line into corners, but nevertheless mighty!
A lot less steering wheel movment on Alosno lap

I'll keep calm until qualifying though. I think Albert Fabrega said that Aston gained time in the straights, a sign that they were running a higher engine mode likely.

The duality of man.

Stroll won't be on the front row....let alone in the car I reckon.... :?
I don’t think he’ll be on the front row either, but I think he will be in the car. Whether that is the right decision long term seems to be out of the question atm, at least in his mind.

I gathered the times and put them on a spreadsheet, in such way that we can compare times against tyre life.
IMO It's more easy to compare the race pace of each team this way.
You can isolate times that happened in the same Tyre Life window more Easy.

IMO Alonso is definitely up there near the top on race pace, or thereabouts.
I don't think will be threaten by anyone from Middlefield.
I also think Overall race pace and degradation levels a will put him ahead of Mercedes.
For me P2 to P5 is pretty much achievable in a normal race.

Not wise from Stroll. I would lose a race over my health any day. There is a chance he might be involved in an accident and risk further injury of his wrist.
As I speculated previously, the only way Lance is so desperate to come back is because the car is THAT good.

That is a plausible explanation.

There are some absolutely wild rumors doing the rounds. I’ll leave it at that.

The very good wind tunnel number rumours have been known for a month now at least, I guess it was that.

The only way Lance would get into trouble is if Alonso was out, and Drugovich beat Lance in Bahrain.
Lance was once outperformed a sub Hulkenberg who had never driven that car before, didn't affect his job stability.

The only thing that can cause Lance to lose his spot is his father losing his patience.

All else being equal, podium might be possible. But I'll be happy with a top 5 finish

A few more comments

1) Lance's pace without any testing and sore wrist should frighten people for one of two reasons:
a) the car is that good
b) Alonso still holding back

2) Aston Martin are in an unexpected position regulations wise. Red Bull only every accounted for the WT deficit to their nearest rivals (Ferrari and Mercedes). From that point of view, the WT restriction may be small if they don't waste any time. The problem is never in RB's wildest dreams did they imagine that the P7 WCC car, would start the season on near equal footing, while having overwhelmingly more WT time:

This makes AMR dangerous not just in Bahrain, but for the in-season development race. AMR will have nearly 40% more throughput in their windtunnel than RB, led by Dan Fallow. As good as the RB aero group is, the odds are not great beating a team led by someone like Dan Fallows with both hands tied behind your back. I expect AMR will get even closer to Red Bull over the season.

That's a very good point! Things look good for AMR

Hopefully it doesn't end up creating a yo-yo effect where constructors fall to a very low ranking for a year, and then surge back to the top and have the increased development time for 6mo of the championship fight vs others who won't - might end up going against the intention of the rule. At the moment it seems to be working very well though!

I feel there is still untapped potential in this car compared to others. Everyone else had an evolution so they had working setup windows to start off with. AMR is just learning this car new suspension aero everything. It will take a few races.

Plus if they address Alonsos control issues in time which I still believe he indicates slightly in his interviews, maybe he can pull out another couple of tenths.
