Perez crashed in Qualifying, didn't he? And every team puts on a new plank before qualifying, because from the start of qualifying the car may not be changed. And as every team drives as low as possible and therefore plank wear is always a risk, no team will start qualifying with an old plank.

Its almost "burned" from front to back, just after a few laps. I wonder how it's possible that they don't get any problems with plank wear here...but anyway - if you compare the plank with those of Ferrari and Mercedes you can see exactly on this "burned" plank that they (can) drive much lower. Even if I can not understand that they have no problems with plank wear If the wooden plank already looks like this after a few laps....

OR the lighter areas are the worn parts?Andi76 wrote: ↑28 May 2023, 19:50Over this whole area and so evenly?Spacepace wrote: ↑28 May 2023, 19:49It could be burned from the titanium skid plate shooting sparksAndi76 wrote: ↑28 May 2023, 18:50

I think this needs to be on some sort of forum wiki. Every year there are discussions around which bits are dirt, and which are wear.BorisTheBlade wrote: ↑30 May 2023, 19:28IMHO, the dark colour is from track dirt (tire rubber, etc.) and maybe some burn. The bright patches are the plank wear.
And that alone seems to be highly interesting to other engineers - read that somewhere.
Haven't been following this closely in recent years, but:
It is interesting to me that the wear seems to be on the leading edge, exactly in the middle and on the trailing edge as well. From what I recall in the past, the most plank wear was right on the leading edge.
As mentioned in the post just above this one (and a post I made long ago in the Rb18 thread). The much black on the RB19 skid is not due to the fact that the car touches the asphalt a lot, but it is paint. The lightest areas are where it rubs and, considering that the RB19 runs very low, this means that wear is very limited.
Yes. That much is clear from the floor edge alone. It's an edited picture of checo's raised rb19: the damaged side has been replaced with a mirrored image of the undamaged side of the floor (which is confirmed from the perfectly symmetrical plank wear)Venturiation wrote: ↑31 May 2023, 22:05from reddit is it the 19?
