The RB19 is in a completely different league. Not surprising.

Hard to say why it happens, aside from RBR being a better car, but mostly VER gains in the high speed corners, specifically T3, T11 and T14, where he simply keeps the pedal down more.

Long run pace of the first group:

SAI and LEC both have very good pace, it's not close to VER but their first stint was on the test tyre which is a hard compound equivalent and the degradation on the softs is equivalent to Max. I think the race might show some small improvement from Ferrari.

This graph has the outliers removed, so a bit clearer how the laptimes evolved. Box plot shows how Ferrari are much improved here in terms of long run pace.

degradation looks alright, which is a positive indeed. Pace looks about equal with Mercedes, I would say, if you take the fuel effect into account. Sainz burned 13 laps of fuel already before switching to Softs, Leclerc 8.

This all seems tentatively positive. Charles said much the same - i.e. the feeling is good but still work to be done.

It doesn't mean they will have Red Bull pace all of a sudden, but it does seem (on VERY initial data) a bit more stable, a bit more predictable.

I think qualifying is the only time you can compare, because that’s the only time you know they're actually trying, the PU’s are cranked up, and the fuel loads are low.

Hard to read into sessions that are glorified testing programs.

Normally it can be difficult to compare, but there's an odd bit in the data that is worth attempting to reconcile. The SF23 is carrying a lot more speed through Apex in places like T4, T7, T10 than F1-75, yet the SF23 is taking much bigger lifts in T3 and T9. How can both of these things happen at the same time?

1) They’re sand bagging or at least just not putting wear on the car. There are two spec SF-23’s in this session. Also Charles was running the test tire for a chunk of it. It was a testing session.
And/or
2) they’ve determined with the way the PU deployment works they can gain more lifting and recharging and deploying elsewhere, especially with the loss of the chicane.
