Mega tight quali.
More impressive max only being 0.013 behind Sainz whilst he’s running a barn door parachute wing Vs a track specific Ferrari wing.
I expect Carlos will be a sitting duck tomorrow behind max.
Rightly so?!
In a message to the teams, the FIA informs them that unnecessary slow driving is not allowed. This includes in- and outlaps.
The FIA also gives a time of 1.41.0. The time is measured from safety car line 2 to safety car line 1. After qualifying, the FIA will investigate whether drivers complied. So it cannot be ruled out that penalties will follow well after qualifying.
In Ferrari's defense, most of the lap the DRS is open and Ferrari's wing is from last year so while track specific it isn't car specific.
The FIA mentioned "no further action" so they definitely won't have penalties later.Wouter wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 17:22In a message to the teams, the FIA informs them that unnecessary slow driving is not allowed. This includes in- and outlaps.

The ferraris are moving around in the corners. The redbull is sure footed. Max will pass sainz. And if he has a bad start and loses out to leclerc, he will get it back.
This rule was put in place to not get a whole field crawling to the line and several guys missing the flag, or overtaking through the bunch. That did not happen. Ferrari was cheeky/stupid there, but since the scenario that needed to be prevented did not occur they let it slide.Wouter wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 17:22Rightly so?!

Would have been a ridiculous penalty. Leclerc had to let by 5 cars that lap and was sitting behind an Alpine going super slow in the lesmos, while also letting by another car.Wouter wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 17:22Rightly so?!

Ferrari came out offset from other cars in Q1, while others were on their fast lap Ferrari just came out. They had a nice free lap but in their cooldown lap they had to let by all the other cars on fast laps. LEC for example had to let by 3-4 cars in the first half of the lap starting with Bottas in T3. How are you supposed to hit your max time when you literally have to crawl to an halt when blue flags are shown to let by a fast lap?
Well, we do need this rule as that halve the field missing the flag, or people slamming through the queue that happened in previous years was just horrible to see. You want a qualy like this one.dialtone wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 17:31Ferrari came out offset from other cars in Q1, while others were on their fast lap Ferrari just came out. Rule shouldn't be applied to inlaps, was a dumb idea to have that be on cooldowns or inlaps.
How have you come to this conclusion. The rule is in place for this exact reason, in addition to excessive slowing on warmup laps.
Perez will win by 20s ahead of max who's 20s ahead of ferraris. That's how much better RB is but ferrari drivers doing miracles.ringo wrote: ↑02 Sep 2023, 17:25The ferraris are moving around in the corners. The redbull is sure footed. Max will pass sainz. Perez himself can also pull a suprised ans get P2.
Apparently perez is using an old engine. But not an excuse.
