Not too concerning for LEC, he stayed out 6 laps instead of 3 and did his best time on his 5th lap instead of 2nd like SAI. He had more fuel for his lap in general.

Race sims appeared solid:
SAI:
LAP 14 H/1 Stint 3.0: NaT
LAP 15 H/2 Stint 3.0: 1:37.043
LAP 16 H/3 Stint 3.0: 1:37.477
LAP 17 H/4 Stint 3.0: 1:37.776
LAP 18 H/5 Stint 3.0: 1:37.841
LAP 19 H/6 Stint 3.0: 1:37.516
LAP 20 H/7 Stint 3.0: 1:36.919
LAP 21 H/8 Stint 3.0: 1:37.476
LAP 22 H/9 Stint 3.0: 1:37.715

LEC:
LAP 17 H/1 Stint 3.0: NaT
LAP 18 H/2 Stint 3.0: 1:36.533
LAP 19 H/3 Stint 3.0: 1:37.313
LAP 20 H/4 Stint 3.0: 1:37.953
LAP 21 H/5 Stint 3.0: 1:37.188
LAP 22 H/6 Stint 3.0: 1:37.260
LAP 23 H/7 Stint 3.0: 1:37.077

I don't think Merc or McL did any race sims, they just did laps around at varying speeds and such. It's encouraging from Ferrari.

So wait, were Sainz and Leclerc using different floors ? Afaiu both had new floors fitted.
Yes. FP1: Leclerc ran the new floor, Sainz ran the old floor

LEC 2022 (red) v 2023 (green)

* I think there's a TON of margin in S1 from Ferrari. both in the esses and in T7.
* car has clearly better aero looking at the top speeds into T13-14 (3600-3800) and that's an FP1 mode to FP3 mode for the engine.

Hopefully LEC didn't damage the floor but otherwise it's a good looking car from this telemetry imho.

Why are they using different engine modes? doesn't that make it harder to compare the two floors?
Leclerc had an issue at the end of last race

Maybe that has something to do with it.

Ferrari has 3 new floor specs already in Suzuka. The upgrade has been approved by Leclerc

Sainz will also use it in FP2

This is a good floor. Purple in S2 is really a surprise and not too far in S1.

S2 is the degner's and a hairpain so it should not surprise you why we are quick there, I'm sure we lose a bit of the margin ther ethrough spoon. Keep in mind were scraping everywhere and running bigger wing than most of us expected.

S1 should be a benchmark for floor gains, fp1 didn't show too much promise.

Traffic in T1 and mistake in T9 for LEC

Mistake for VER in hairpain

Nah, I pretty much disagree :). For example I think they are finally able to run a bigger wing and still be balanced, and in S1 drivers simply didn't push or risk anything. Tire deg from FP1 didn't look bad at all.

This is from FP2

VER vs LEC fast lap

Look at the min speed difference through the esses. That is all floor performance. And then again we ar equicker on the straights which should tell you RB are running lower engione mode. They should have a bit of margin on the straights due to lower wings

yes I know.

And the FOM graphics just showed that Ferrari is better throughout S2 even through spoon.

Then explain the galatic difference through the esses?

Looking few laps in. Doesn't look too bad with Leclerc, on long runs. Running medium. He is somewhere around 2-3 tenths slower than VER on prototype C2 tyres (mediums). Sainz few tenths off Leclerc. Also mediums

VER has new prototype tyre while LEC had 3 laps on it. VER deg is much better though, everyone else seemed slower than LEC.

Yup. Just as I submitted post, saw Leclerc starting to lose a bit more time than Verstappen :D but he recovered a bit. In general I think it looks good.

Compare Ferrari against itself last year. Drivers are just not taking risks.

Ferrari won't be on pole and won't win, but it's not bad at all.
