Get in each others' way and take points off one another?

Russell will not be a threat, he just has to be managed (unlike today...). In fact he has never really been faster than Hamilton over a weekend this year...

I guess this is one of those situations that are just.. difficult, there isn't really another viable option. Copying RB will give some short-term gains, for sure, but what's in the long run? I mean RB has a headstart on this design of 2 years, is it even possible to bridge this gap in 2025?
Mercedes can beat red bull with a copy. Why?
Well redbull did not go through the struggles that mercedes did and there are things that mercedes learned while struggle and solutions they found and worked st to desperately solve their problems. These aspects of the w14 may not have been investigated by a team like rbr who had smooth sailing. And this is why Newy walks with his clip board and takes notes of the other cars. There are always tricks that can be missed.
Mercedes with a redbull copy and other suspension, floor or wing features born out of their desperation with w13 and w14 could give them an edge against an RB20.
So i feel it is possible to copy and be better. It's not likely but it's possible.
What Merc has learned is that their design philosophy for the 2022 technical regulation was wrong and it took them nearly 1.5 years to realize they need to change. While at RBR, they started 2022 on the right footing and spent nearly 2 years learning and understanding the car to make it better. With nearly 2 years of track data, I think RBR simulator is already well set up to assist in development, while Merc will need to unlearn and relearn. There is also the limitation of engine development restriction, budget cap, limited track testing etc.

In F1, of course, anything is possible, but if your hypothesis is correct, then we should also include Ferrari and Mclaren to be competing for win. How is Merc's position better than McLaren and Ferrari?
I think it's possible but hard that Merc can close the gap, I mean AM went from being a back marker team to second fastest car over the winter and had a good chance to win at Monaco if they got the strategy right, but of course they managed to poach one of RB's top aero guys. People seem to be putting a lot of stock into Allison getting Merc back to their winning ways and I know hes responsible for building two of the fastest cars in F1 history with the F2004 and W11 but I'm just wondering his skill with ground effects cars and if any of the work done in the America's cup with boats will translate into these regs cause I've seen mention of ground effects with those boats, particularly one named Defiant

2021. Ok, not entirely fair maybe...but won.

Newey disagrees but who is he to disagree

Does he? The claim is based on an emotional interview cheering his team...of course, this sets everything in stone :D

No, there was only very few races where the RedBull was genuinely faster, most was lost/won on strategy.

2021 is currently the latest year in which a driver in a non WCC winning car won the WDC.

2 tenths? Nobody really. But once you are within two tenths, you can realistically push yourself to wins through strategy.

Especially since Mercedes would likely be able to gang up on Max, with sergio lagging elsewhere

Being two tenths slower won’t cut it. Not when your operations are so far behind. Slower pit stops mean it’s impossible to undercut unless rbr is asleep at the wheel. Their lack of spontaneity and reliance on algorithms in making decisions will cost them strategy wise. Their drivers will take points off each other. The only way they can win is with a faster car, a clearly faster one. They might be able to win the constructors but not the drivers imho.

Was not a slower car though, I would quote Neway, but it would take to long to find his interview ( n I'm in mobile, will post it when I'm home ), but he said over the season the red bull was the faster car, so LH would have won in the slower car had the safety car rules not been manipulated, LH n Bottas was consistent enough to win the constructors with the 2nd best car over the duration of the season and LH champion in 2nd fastest car. In Neways genius opinion ofc, Which is probs backed up by a lot of data ofc

Back to the topic please, everyone

Depending on how quickly the team can understand a different aero and mass distribution concept, it could be 2025 before they truly challenge for WCC & WDC again. They do seem to still have balance issues from week to week. Not the first time they have created a diva, there were at least two years in their great run of 8 WCC that they did so. On both occasions they still won the WCC (if not the WDC on one of those).
Somewhere in their simulation models there are still issues with correlation.
