The ratio of sharp and flowing corners looks a lot more like Sakhir than Barcelona. Old layout was better for Ferrari, these changes will bring McLaren into podium fight.

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

What do you think of this?
how does Bahrain fit into that list? I'd think it's a completely different kind of track.

How tf is Qatar and Bahrain so close lol

It's an algorithm to sort tracks by characteristics, so i guess its not perfect. The best sorter to have in this situation are the eyes.

T10 in Barcelona and T9 in AD are similar but otherwise the circuits have nothing in common in practical terms imo.

AD has back to back straights/DRS zones and then a bunch of corners in between. In Barcelona the corners and straights are more distributed. This impacts how much the tires can cool between the heavy corners and also the ability to have full ERS deployment on each straight. In barcelona the left front tire is on fire (T3, T9, T12, T14) whereas in AD, not so much. Many practical differences between the circuits. The tarmac is different as well.

The author said the following:
The closest the points, the more similar the tracks -> X and Y axis don't have a meaning by themselves Features used: Density of corners, max_speed, q1 speed, median, q3 speed, average, time at full throttle, time between 0-100% throttle

The criteria used to generate the map will determine how close points are and selecting those criteria is more important than the final result. A different set of criteria could make Monaco and Spa close. As ScuderiaBrandon suggest, Qatar and Bahrain are not similar but the map suggest they are.

Article about the sf23's development

Talks about how switching away from bathtubs lost downforce but eventually opened up development paths (previously speculated)

The Austria floor was optimization based on the sidepod changes and front wing to improve overall balance

Suzuka floor change aimed to improve consistency of downforce. This meant better balance and drivers can experience similar characteristics corner to corner.

Pretty sure that's just extrapolated from a misinterpreted quote from Fred

The original quote is (speaking to AMuS):
Vasseur said, “If something like that happens to us again, we’ll have to skip Abu Dhabi.”
Whereas scuderiafans translated that quote from the original AMuS German to:
“If the costs are on us, we might have to skip Abu Dhabi,” the French manager confirmed at the end of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Very shoddy attempt at journalism

I was rewatching the race.

Now i understand why Charles said the warm-up phase was absolutely critical. The first two laps he was so slow after the pit stop. He was already planning for the long game against Max knowing he had a small advantage. He used the same tactic in the first stint as he was lapping at Russell / Gasly level at the beginning.

That SC was absolutely useless by the way, VSC would have been enough. The SC completely ruined the race for us.

No it wasn't. Marshals within track limits always requires the cars to be bunched up. So unless they already are (like, right after a restart), that's always either a full safety car or a red flag. No exceptions.

it actually was a joke even from Vasseur. The AmuS article states that he said it "mit einem Augenzwinkern", which is the German idiom for "tongue-in-cheek"

Sainz said that the 2024 car handling is quite different from the SF 23 in the simulator.
