RB20 speculation

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

100% Overbite, clearest pictures I have found so far. Open them in a new tab and you can zoom in.

I don’t see how these pictures change anything? You can’t see any intake just like the last pictures.

What is clear is there is no intake above the lip, therefore unless there is no intake then it must be below.

What is clear is nothing is clear.. which should raise some suspicion as to who took the photos

It is clear to me but after the exhaust stickers on the RB6 perhaps it is right to be skeptical until we start testing.

There's a chance that it's not overbite...

So there is this bit here which there are two sides of the fence on. Some people think it's an inlet, and others think it's the mirror vane from the RB19.

What confuses me is that the dark region matches the inside of the cockpit so it could in fact be a void/opening, and not the mirror vane. It might be too dark to be the mirror vane.

It could just be a NACA-esque inlet on the top side, or an overbite inlet with inlet underneath.

But you can literally see it's corresponding counterpart on the other side of the car in the exact spot under the mirror.

Just to the left of the uppermost arrow. Where the point starts.

Tbh, if it was a duct, you would see some shadowing on the RHS sidepod. There is nothing.

Yes but the problem is that the left hand side mirror is obscuring the right hand side of the car where a hypothetical inlet would also be. You can't actually see the top surface of the inlet on the right hand side of the car. you are seeing the left hand side mirror with the yellow "Rauch" sponsor instead.

Do you mean that the inlet would be hiding behind the mirror mount outwash thing, or what? Because that dark rectangular thing is 100% a mirror mount, you can see it on the other side as well.

FWIW, once again Marko says that RB is well prepared.

I guess the whole development path with the downwashing sidepods has been in maximising the undercut and flow into that region. An 'overbite' inlet would seemingly backpedal on that development, and I would be surprised if that is what the design actually is. It seems that people have just seen Dr Obbs theorize that its this design and people have just accepted it
I personally drew my own conclusion that it was overbite based on the photos.

This is very convincing:

https://i.postimg.cc/k4gN7ps2/image.png

I'm also confused by why you think the overbite does not support downwash.
Look at the O in the word Oracle.
Just above and to the left of the O, I’m assuming is a square mirror.
From the bottom of that square mirror there is a slightly bent horizontal dark line that runs to what would be the inside shoulder of the side pod.
Is that a shadow or an inlet edge beginning for an underbite?

Quit it! Its 100% sure an underbite. The inlet is on the top of the sidepod as expected. The mirror stays are used as a spoiler above the inlet, hence the inlet is obscured behind the mirror supports.

Chasing shadows and pixels on side views won't show them.

RB was sis-limited before. The obvious best place for the inlet lip extension is as high as it can go.

The whole point is that the increased stagnation area of a regular inlet messes up the flow to the beam wing. Right now, like AMR, it's coanda fed. If the stagnation area increseases, coanda decreases. Less stagnation, clean air.

There's the waterslide. And no hint of a top side inlet.
