Looks like the car was set for race more than qualifying because the car was not as quick as expected over one lap, given the previous pace shown. Also if you look at both the cars, they took one extra lamp to warm up the tires which was not the case for other teams.

I think mistakes happened due to compromising setup favouring towards the race. Don’t think it will matter in the race anyways they will be behind top 4 teams . Maybe they can try to get ahead of Russel but beyond that don’t think car has the pace

When I check the facts than I’m seeing that Alonso was faster than the McLaren until his error and floor damage and with a good lap he would’ve "definitely" take Norris place

Ps: Maybe you should check the facts about the 2 set of softs in Q2 too.

Q2:
Ferrari: 1 used new set - first outing scrubbed set - second outing new set
Red Bull: 1 used new set - only one outing with a new set
McLaren: 1 used new set - first outing new set - second outing scrubbed set
Alonso: 2 used new sets - first outing new set - second outing new set
Stroll already had to use 2 new sets in Q1, only had one fresh for Q2 and Q3...

ALO did a 17.1 in his first Q2 attempt with new tyres - 5 tenths slower than PIA (also with new tyres) and 4 tenths slower than NOR (also with new tyres)

ALO did a 16.7 in his second Q2 attempt with new tyres - still slower than the earlier McLaren times

ALO also wasn't quicker than the McLaren in the first Q3 sector until the mistake.


So what are you talking? All what you wrote is just not true.

Q2 first attempt was on old tyres. In second attempt, his fastest time was set on his sixth lap and stroll set it on the fourth lap. Aston's pace was very confusing. Honestly though in Q3 the car had pace for P4, both the drivers did not extract it, making mistakes (but it also looked like the car couldn't get the tyres to work until the second lap)

they may be checking and testing optimal working window for Tyre for both the race and qualy. Let see if they have good race pace today.

Lucky too, the VSR pit stop. Then Russell's accident saved what look like tragedy for Alonso cause he started to have problems. Sounded like a PU missing or something.

They weren't sure they were gonna make it back to the pits.

I don't see so,every time when got new tyres,the time difference just was keep increase instead of decrease or at least manage. Without the VSC is would look horrible honestly.

Definitely they didn't deserve more than 9th and 10th. But before you can win, you need to finish and 3 faster cars didn't finish.

i wonder if that has anything to do with mercedes claiming that alonso brake tested russell to cause that wreck. of course they are gonna say that though. same thing happened last season when alonso moved over to let hamilton pass
