What's simply not clear for me: their best part was with the softs, I think that was a pretty competitive stint, medium a bit less compared to the others and like a b-team at the last stint (although ALO played his usual games with opponents behind - top job). I think ALO complained for lack of grip.

Deg wasn't a problem and Alonso went soft-medium-hard while most others went medium-hard-hard. So good.

I can't understand why Alonso always saving and paying games. Once they really just should try to go 53 lap qualification and see what happens. If Alonso wouldn't play with Piastri ,then maybe could finish p5.

Good race, 24 seconds behind Sainz in P3 is an improvement from the other races, let's hope we can close this gap further with more updates and at tracks which suit the car better!

Is that a joke? Alonso was around 12/13 seconds behind Norris when he started slowing down on purpose to let Piastri in the DRS, he was never going to catch Norris and losing a place to Russell was a real possibility.

Yep, from the first lap on the hards he simply was uncompetitive, most likely just a lack of grip, so he decided to concentrate on the guys behind.

You could see that pretty good how different lines PIA was able to take in every corner, ALO very cautious on the other side like he still had a full tank.

But the team is obviously aware of the grip problem - just look at the "weird" tyre choice for the race, which makes a bit sense now.

Or as ALO said multiple times: the extra grip of a new set in Q hides their problems.

Modern F1, you can't do that. Your first few laps will be very fast but then the rest of the laps will be really slow, as you've taken too much rubber off the tire. If you pit to change tires, if you have any, you'll loose 20 seconds for the pitstop. It's impossible to make up that 20 seconds, 1 sec a lap since the tires last on average 20 laps.

The teams calculate the fastest time to the end of the race with the best lap times and performing the fewest pitstops.
