Once they really just should try to go 53 lap qualification and see what happens. If Alonso wouldn't play with Piastri ,then maybe could finish p5.
Modern F1, you can't do that. Your first few laps will be very fast but then the rest of the laps will be really slow, as you've taken too much rubber off the tire. If you pit to change tires, if you have any, you'll loose 20 seconds for the pitstop. It's impossible to make up that 20 seconds, 1 sec a lap since the tires last on average 20 laps.
The teams calculate the fastest time to the end of the race with the best lap times and performing the fewest pitstops.
