McLaren MCL38

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This is the pic that tells me that the waterslides aren't gone near the driver, there's clearly an upper edge, it's just more like a spoon than a canal at the top of the sidepods now. Definately not flat.

The new sidepods with the late steep waterslide are similar to the rb20.

They have the scalloped rear sidewall of the sidepod which was first brought by the W14B. To be honest overall it bears lot of resemblance to W14B

Sidepod inlets slightly increased in aspect ratio and with larger midwing/overbite.

Some great details and putting everything together nicely.

new vs old fw. New below. Its in the detail. But, curvature/spoon in the mainplane more flat and longer compared to old version, attachment point tweaked also as well wing elements

Looks like the total frontal area of the wing is reduced/tweaked. Possibly due to the front part of the floor generating more DF. therefore you can have a front wing that’s slightly backed off and used more for flow conditioning and less DF generation (and hence less drag)

Yeah main plane is the largest difference I think

new and old car and fw, also notice how much they gained from narrowing the sidepod inlet height and making it wider instead,

There are many changes to the front wings. They are all small and insignificant, but I found more than 5 points where there are changes.

If anything, I can highlight it for the general view.

The new wing is also easy to identify at the different nose tip. (or the light playing tricks)
