Are they tho? The Red Bull cars lately struggle on bumpy circuits. Even last year Alonso wasn't too far off pole considering how much better Red Bull were than everyone else. I think it is just a compromise they have. The onboards were awful today. People talk about engine mode but that Red Bull will struggle to put power down after the bumps, they are suffering similarly to the SF23 last year with big bouncing.

Monaco is not a circuit where you want to purposely sandbag this hard. Every lap counts for practice and finding the right setup. Why would they waste 2 practice sessions lol.

They'll be much closer tomorrow but this "Max is hiding the real pace on purpose" stuff is the real BS. More likely they just didn't have the setup to alleviate their floor weakness today.

The only trouble Max may have now is tyre temperature. And... they may be driving with a heavy car and low engine mode. As soon as the fuel comes out and the engine turned up to 11, their true performance will show in qualifying.
The tyre warm up may be the only thing that could get them out if there is traffic.
I wont pity them. As for Charles, getting it on pole is not the end of the story.. The race and a safety car, or even damage from contact are risks he needs to avoid.

Reality is that McLaren, red bull, Ferrari all have different approaches to laptime and different floor designs. Ferrari car has been better on curbs and bumps throughout this regulation set. RB has been weak on both throughout. Monaco offers same problems to rb20 as Singapore did to the rb19.

Sure they won't be missing Q3 in all likelihood, but this isn't fake struggle. Even with engine modes they're still over 5 tenths behind Leclerc's theoretical best lap which was not possible due to traffic

I'm normally pretty receptive to claims of teams/drivers downplaying themselves, but I dont think it's complete BS in this case. I think they'll be close, but might well be struggling enough to lose out on pole.

Double and triple check that front axel. Charles said it felt fine when he got back out. Only thing that will stop Charles later is himself. On his best lap he locked up into Rascasse. Ferrari needs to make sure the car is 100% to give him the best chance.

Interesting that Max said he can claw back the gap but couldn't do it at that point in the session on the radio. Probably referring to tires. Seems like PU modes were similar by the end.

Think the tires are 5 soft, 1 hard, 1 medium. Need a clean Q1 to makes sure they have to new sets for Q3.
