It'll be interesting to see how Lando race Max and vice versa now that Lando has nothing to loose
Lando does though.
Now his title is over he has to absolutely show the world that he can play his part in the teams ambition to win the WCC.
The only really realistic title on offer since the summer break.

I don't disagree that Max drove masterfully today but still he would not be able to win without that Red Flag.
What about the red flag that put him in P17 (instead of a realistic P7/P8 ?). Luck goes around and comes around. Norris didn't bring his A game today. On fresh inters after 2nd restart, Verstappen was lapping 1.2 to 1.5 seconds faster than both McLarens. Don't say 'fresh engine advantage' because in the rain, without DRS, the capabilities of the car are almost levelled out. There is no way that the 1.2-1.5s is all coming from the car, in such a scenario. It's the driver. Accept the truth, Verstappen is a more 'polished' and more 'battle-hardened' driver than Norris. Norris has to sharpen himself and he surely will, he is very talented. But he needs such 'experiences' (not just driving technique wise, mental toughness wise) to sharpen himself. I am expecting a much sharper and a much more 'team-leader' type Norris in 2025.
Don't think you will find anyone that says Lando is better than Max. Max has been there done it and brought the title shirt. His car was consistently better out there from start to finish. He wouldn't have won without the red flag, but he was head and shoulders the stand out.

Good thing out of this weekend is that we increased the distance from Ferrari from 29 to 36 points.

Why McLaren and Mercedes gave up track position for new inters, I'll never know. This is what gave Max the win.

Just had a look at the telemetry, and the car did not have a straight line speed problem, it was as fast as any of the top cars bar Ferrari, who always carry more speed. The cars that performed the best were those whose drivers could find the traction, which was our drivers on occasion, but not consistently throughout the race like Max.

It was bad luck after a poor roll of the dice. Team should have known that with a lot of cars on old inters in full wet weather conditions, there would be a strong chance of an incident, so ride it out because you won't lose much by staying out and being careful, but you might gain an awful lot.

The WCC was the only title that was ever really possible this season unless Max had some catastrophic bad luck.

Everyone forgot the race.

There was a VSC because someone spun (maybe SAI), they had 10 second gap to P3 and it made sense to pit onto good tyres.

Then SAI moves so VSC ends just as they are entering so they lose more time than expected.

After that NOR is fast and catching VER seconds a lap but the rain is so heavy that it goes SC. Now NOR is P4 on new inters during heavy rain during SC. Pretty good position.

But then Colapinto crashes under safety car and it is a red flag. Very unlucky. But it was also very lucky to scrape by into Q2 and to get VER fall out due to Aston crashing. In the end luck kind of evened out.

Bigger issue is the inability to restart well or overtake.

About the restarts, I think NOR usually drops back more than the others, maybe trying to time the restart but it almost never works out. Car behind also tails him super close so he is immediately under pressure and loses a spot.

He needs to work heavily on these details, starts and restarts.

No, it was another big, big, execution error.
It was 100% clear, that they need to stay out or at least do something different than Russel when the VSC ended. Following Russel into the pits, into traffic was just a stupid descission.
You saw the car driving away, then it was 10sec VSC ending...together easily 15-20sec to send a "stay out".
I was actually astonished seeing Russel go into the pits...but with Norris, I just thought "wtf"... #-o

I agree, it was a poor roll of the dice. It was the way it benefitted Max that was bad luck that was invited from a bad gamble.

In terms of Russell, how many times do people bring out the pit crew to dummy? I'm not so interested in the fact they did come in at the same time, I'm, more interested in the wider view of track position to everyone that then managed to get ahead.

I'm not too worried about how Lando was using the battery either, he was having to push hard in dirty air to get close, it was obviously hard for him to find grip or confidence to overtake. But so many driver mistakes today from both, but even more from Lando, including the start.

He doesn't care what people say, that's fine, it's a good attitude to be fair. But he's deluding himself if he thinks the race was lost on luck. That's not a bad thing, hope he ultimately convinces himself he can drive like Senna.

People just saying Lando will never be a WDC because of a chaotic race in which everyone bar Verstappen and the Alpines made huge mistakes (this includes 2 WDCs, btw) are just so reactionary. This season he had his first ever win, and was thrown into a championship fight that would have meant he had to close the biggest gap ever to become champion. You've all have been asking too much and now are mad at the guy that has outdriven --- cars and stayed loyal to the team for ages.

He needs to work on his starts, although I think the tyre preparation played a part today, but he's already improved in a lot of aspects this season. Plus starting from pole here is always a gamble, even Senna has lost P1 here. Oscar had a bad race, but he'll also improve with more experience.

Just hope we can clinch the WCC and that both drivers have fine races the rest of the season. Don't think the conditions will be as chaotic for the next ones, hopefully.

Where are you seeing that?

I'm trying to find it, but can't see it on any Insta posts...
