Ferrari SF-24

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

AutoRacer.it shared some more photos here https://autoracer.it/it/gallery-las-veg ... -top-team/

The whole rear corner of the floor and the edge are completely new, working very very differently than it is now. They are playing around with new high and low pressure zones on both sides of the floor, I think this is aimed at improved cornering rather than outright downforce, through better sealing of diffuser and keeping the dirty air out

Small changes to low-load front wing since Monza, it looks like only the 4th flap has been changed

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Experimental floor edge details, photo by motorsport. Completely new local geometry, very different from anything else seen thus far on any car (as far as I remember).

Compared to Monza-spec:

Same type of feature just more sculpted (exaggerated)
Well, no. There is an outwash ramp directly detaching from the Venturi. Before there was a clear separation between the Venturi and the little edge pocket everyone uses. Also, the edge wing has a vertical outwashing feature now

Indeed, it's SF24 with hp sponsorship on outboard turning vane. I believe it's from Hungary, when Leclerc had an off at T4. It's not post-Monza floor for sure.

Thanks for sharing, here's the original article https://www.marca.com/motor/formula1/gp ... b4576.html

I've done some rough photo enhancing for better contrast and trying to get more details. I've circled bulk details on the the left side and put numbers on the right where we have the radii reflection giving us the perfect overview of the floor contour

Image

1) the SIS tube bulge, which we saw already in early season on photos from top side. It's very prominent and a local suction-generating surface no doubt. This area is very delicate due to interaction with the main turning-vane vortex

2) this seems to be the area where the throat is, ie where the tunnel roof is the shortest. This section seems to be going down towards the floor edge wing, which generates extraction and local suction in this area

3) the junction area with outboard tunnel wall, I think this area is very important for cornering performance and flow stability in critical conditions. It just so happens this is the area where Ferrari will be making a big change for next year it seems

4) the diffuser kick, fairly tall compared to RB and McL, if Ferrari really move the cockpit and everything behind backwards to move the CoG back - this area may go down a bit to bring more rear load and more load overall obviously

5) the outboard diffuser geometry has been changed since the start of the season, Ferrari seem to have found a way to introduce a bigger local curvature here to increase local load in an area without critical ride-height sensitivity
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

That's what I mean. From this picture it's clear there's a definite step between the tunnel and the edge pocket. In the new floor it looks like the want to "actively" feed the pocket from the Venturi outward.

I think this picture also makes it clear what you mean:

Look again. The old one has it.
