What would have changed in his race, other than finishing P3? Turn it around any way, Ferrari was 2nd best yesterday, cold conditions suited Mercedes the most by far and even they were surprised how good they were.

Only the first lap he went a second slower, then continued at almost the same pace as Charles, sometimes one or two tenths slower, sometimes the same.

Well in any case, Russell was a lot quicker and so was Hamilton when the air cleared out for him. You either lose 1s every lap and end up with 10s gap before pitting for Mediums or you try to keep up, kill the tyres and end up with 8-10s gap to Russell before pitting. Leclerc was running higher pace in FP2, on a much dirtier track. There was literally no indication the cliff on Mediums was so soon. In hindsight, they could have run a bit more in FP2 to see what happens, maybe they will change their FP2 running plans and procedures.

When Leclerc attacked Russell and they went together into T1 he started dropping off right after. I was certain he got a big floor damage and a DNF was coming in a few laps, tyres didn't even cross my mind. Only when Sainz started dropping back as quickly 2 laps later I realised it's the tyres

The first stint had a huge impact in Leclerc’s race as he lost 5s compared to Sainz and 10s on Russell (in like 5 laps). Once again terrible execution with a completely different approach than usual which didn’t work at all. I really don’t understand what the hell where they thinking, maybe they thought they had a huge pace advantage?

Doesn’t change the fact that the execution was suboptimal by a huge margin. Maybe P2 would have been possible as well.

Thats a pure downforce comparison, that's between these two chassis. It's absolutely king in flexing the tire carcass in colder conditions (which is where longer run traction and life is derived) the MB easily superior in this very interesting head-to-head race. Also enhanced by LH having to run it so hard and not tire save at all, just moved it into bigger difference. The Ferrari didn't stand a chance against them under these conditions, nobody else either.

We´re reading people eager to see Hamilton on Sainz seat, claiming he´s a true team player, much better than Sainz...

RBR, Renault and McLaren, all of them claimed Sainz is a team player. But now Hamilton, who apart from a great driver has always been greedy and shelfish like few others (even on his rookie season!) is claimed as a team player

I give it 3-4 GPs as much, until first reality check


Leclerc is Ferrari golden boy, they´ve always protect him. We´ll see next season with a 7xWDC teammate, things can go south so quickly even those criticizing Sainz now, will miss him

Reality is Leclerc is not that top driver he was expected to be. He´s probably one of the best in Q if not the best, but lacks consistency on race trim. Some GPs he´s great, some others, or even some other stints, he´s not.

Luckily for him, Hamilton is past his prime tough, so if he can beat him fair and square, he can keep Ferrari favouritism. Otherwise Ferrari will implode next season

If Hamilton’s Q struggles don’t transfer to Ferrari, then Leclerc will be in trouble. Charles just doesn’t have the consistency on an Sunday to compete with Hamilton, and when you throw in the mistakes that are ingrained in his driving, then you can see that next year will be an uphill struggle. He’s struggled with an average Sainz and even allowed him to get under his skin, which has affected his driving. Not good signs.

I think many will be red faced next year, apart from Vasseur, who knew what he was doing, in signing, Hamilton.

The fastest driver will be backed, same as always apart from that bizarre stretch in 2022 when Binotto favoured Sainz over Leclerc which ultimately got him fired.

Sainz has now overstayed his welcome in two of the biggest teams in F1. He won't get a third opportunity at the front.

his top 5 finish streak goes back to last year too yea he had awful run at canada, austria, silverstone, but he bounced back quite fast.
