Don't bother arguing with the people who are in this thread just to start drama. Leclerc has easily been one of the most consistent drivers this season. It's the reason he's P3 in the WDC, far ahead of his teammate and Piastri, despite having three non-points races. His average finishing position this year is P3 or P4 (depending on how you round). But anyways, it's not worth debating.

In better news, it's a relief to hear Vasseur say testing of the floor went well. There's a lot riding on their wind tunnel being more accurate than it was earlier this year. But the part about the skid blocks is frustrating. I don't understand why they didn't wait until post-season since it affected so many teams. Oh well.

Vasseur also said they know where they went wrong with the setup, but he believes the inconsistency between compounds needs to be fixed for next year. I still find it interesting the two teams with the best tire deg normally struggled with the mediums. Good on Mercedes for being able to find a way around it, they deserved the win.

Qatar will be tough no matter which team is the best. Track position is key there. If they qualify below second row, their only chance is to be smarter in pit strategy than the other teams. At least Qatar is at a more reasonable time...

Do you think the swap could have been done earlier in the first stint?

Charles: "You mean me letting Carlos pass? I think I did it on the first straight and I didn't even have the message from the team, I said it on the radio that I would do it."
And they call it a stall. A STALL!

Issues for who? I'm just saying, if some of the people on here would take the perspective of Sainz instead of always Leclerc...

We´re reading people eager to see Hamilton on Sainz seat, claiming he´s a true team player, much better than Sainz...    #-o

This thread will be funny next season

RBR, Renault and McLaren, all of them claimed Sainz is a team player. But now Hamilton, who apart from a great driver has always been greedy and shelfish like few others (even on his rookie season!) is claimed as a team player

I give it 3-4 GPs as much, until first reality check

Leclerc is Ferrari golden boy, they´ve always protect him. We´ll see next season with a 7xWDC teammate, things can go south so quickly even those criticizing Sainz now, will miss him

Reality is Leclerc is not that top driver he was expected to be. He´s probably one of the best in Q if not the best, but lacks consistency on race trim. Some GPs he´s great, some others, or even some other stints, he´s not.

Luckily for him, Hamilton is past his prime tough, so if he can beat him fair and square, he can keep Ferrari favouritism. Otherwise Ferrari will implode next season
Oh it's going to be hilarious. The grass is always greener though.

One day Charles will learn the lesson. Sainz comes from the Red Bull school. Max did the same thing to him and he hasn't forgot it. Hamilton hasn't from his numerous teammate battles across the past 2 decades either.

Man up and stop acting like a baby. Outright pace and being nice isn't going to get you that WDC. If you want to be the best, you better grab the bull by the horns. No pun intended. :D

People really think that Charles has been inconsistent this season?? I don't think we have been watching the same season then.

I do think Charles is struggling a bit more than Carlos with the new FW. Ever since it was introduced, Charles has had tyre temp issues on every qualy lap besides COTA.

Yeah, don’t agree with that assessment. He’s been extremely consistent.

Lewis is a team player when it comes to car development. If it comes down to him having a chance at winning a World Championship? He'll leave Leclerc in the dust.

It's always a funny thread, like the Redbull and McLaren threads.

Top drivers are always greedy, Lewis in 2007 was awesome to watch, just as much as it was awesome to watch Alonso's anger at being challenged. As for Sainz? He's leaving the team, he doesn't really owe them
anything given they replaced him with the Lewis.
I give it 3-4 GPs as much, until first reality check

If Lewis is on it from the get go, Leclerc will struggle.
Leclerc is Ferrari golden boy, they´ve always protect him. We´ll see next season with a 7xWDC teammate, things can go south so quickly even those criticizing Sainz now, will miss him
Ferrari signed Lewis for his driving skills and his marketablity. You can be the Ferrari goldenboy one minute, and then the number 2 the next. Ferrari rarely show loyalty to drivers past a certain point. They shoved Schumacher out the door when he was still driving well. Leclerc has to step up, Ferrari have other options.
Reality is Leclerc is not that top driver he was expected to be. He´s probably one of the best in Q if not the best, but lacks consistency on race trim. Some GPs he´s great, some others, or even some other stints, he´s not.

Leclerc lacks consistency at times, but that doesn't make him not a top driver. In fact he's been fairly consistent this season. And Ferrari have made some very poor decisions in the past couple of seasons, so not everything is down to Leclerc. Though Fred has started to improve the decision making processes at Ferrari, still more work to do.
Luckily for him, Hamilton is past his prime tough, so if he can beat him fair and square, he can keep Ferrari favouritism. Otherwise Ferrari will implode next season
Lewis is not past his prime, he's just been unmotivated due to Mercedes producing one stinker after another in the current regulation set. Lewis checked out of Mercedes a while ago. He was having fun yesterday in the race, showing off his tyre management and overtaking skills.

If it's Ferrari vs Redbull? You'd want Lewis leading the charge in the drivers title battle against Verstappen.

If Hamilton’s Q struggles don’t transfer to Ferrari, then Leclerc will be in trouble. Charles just doesn’t have the consistency on an Sunday to compete with Hamilton, and when you throw in the mistakes that are ingrained in his driving, then you can see that next year will be an uphill struggle. He’s struggled with an average Sainz and even allowed him to get under his skin, which has affected his driving. Not good signs.

I think many will be red faced next year, apart from Vasseur, who knew what he was doing, in signing, Hamilton.
Sainz is hardly average, though.

I mean, he was every bit as fast and competitive as Norris.

I skipped a lot of the race on Sunday as I watched it late. From what I saw Sainz passed Leclerc after he overheated his tyres but then Leclerc got back past him. So why did Sainz get to stop before Leclerc?

That is a valid point though. Charles has clearly struggled with the car, especially qualifying, since the front wing update. Carlos has been surprisingly close to him , even in race pace, since that.

Wasn’t the flexier FW supposed to make the front stronger, something that should favor Charles compared to Carlos?

I'm going to tear my eyes out if I have to read more posts like this next year.

He is also definitely on the downslide, you just can't beat father time.

His qualifying laps often have scruffy corners and general untitdyness compared to 5 years ago.

Charles absolutely hit a cliff on those mediums, he was immediately 2-3 seconds a lap slower and he knew it. He told the team he was letting Sainz go but he could not have defended that position even if he tried. Verstappen blew by a lap later and by the time he boxed he was 5 seconds behind Sainz. Still, Sainz paid back the same favour later.

If Ferrari have a car capable of securing poles and winning races consistently, then we'll see if he's past his peak performance as an F1 driver fairly quickly. An unmotivated Lewis tends to look average at best. Which he's looked for most of the season, apart from when he pulls a performance out of the bag i.e. Silverstone.
