I wouldn't call it a bounce back, more like a soft landing. I have not seen a significant improvement in the past races, so i'm not confident they really have found a way up.

Its the tyres...

They had a major problem with the hard tyre in half of the races this year. On medium Red Bull have the pace, even mostly similar or slightly faster than Ferrari, Mclaren. But as soon as we put the hards on, we have zero grip. The car is just sliding around. In Qatar there are a lot of medium-high speed corners putting a lot of energy into the tyres, which should help us. Will see.

Would be nice to have some comparison with others.
But as I saw others were mostly posting fastest lap during Ver's simulation, so I guess there are no runs to compare to?

But negative deg is always promising.

I didn't see anyone else doing long running. Max just did a soft tire sim. It seems very slow. 1 second off the best time. No comments from Max after the lap. GP said to take care of the soft tire on the in lap so they might have been saving that tire for a qualy session. Max is now back out on the mediums for practice start on the grid.

Thanks for that. That puts it into context. In that case Red Bull's sim is very slow. Maybe Merc is on sprint fuel?

Ferrari is using the new floor and are damn fast. Looks like it's giving them 1s advantage in race pace over McLaren. SF-24 is on rails, even in T15 where everyone is going off. Of course its FP but I don't see any evidence of engine-mode sandbagging from anyone. Redbull is nowhere. I think this track with so many continuous high and medium speed corners, has finally 'exposed the full extent of the deficiency' of the RB20. There is no portion of the track to 'make up time' and hide behind a little bit.
Anyway, no pressure, WDC is over, but 'finishing the season on a high' I don't it's possible. Would love to be proven wrong, but not seeing any evidence that RB20 is competitive. It's way off, and didn't look like it was sandbagging with engine mode.

High-speed corners are supposed to be good for RB on a smooth track.
I would wait for qualy.

No one finds 1s with a floor. Calm down lol.

Max went out first, there still was a lot of track evolution, he didnt have the perfect prep and a lot of traffic. Ferrari is fastest but not by that much.

Leclerc did his soft tire run within 10 seconds of Max. Watched it live. They followed each other on the out lap. Max was a full second slower. It's baffling.

I didn't see speed traces etc, but for quite a while now RB has been trundling around in very low engine modes in fp1. Usually they are right up there when it comes to qualy.
