When you say it out loud then the penalty does make sense.. "...for driving at 200mph through a double waved yellow flag zone" and I'd be totally in favour of it....

...it's just that still I'm not sure what Norris should've done given what he saw, and that's after carefully looking at it for 10 minutes.
It'd be interesting to see the speeds of the others and when the flags stopped being waved.

Can the team appeal and delete a whole race?
No, that's the point. By forcing the penalty to be served it cannot be rescinded or reviewed by anyone else.

Another interesting outcome from the application of the penalty.

I thought this BS was done after Abu Dhabi 21 but yet again today we saw an utterly embarrassing episode for Formula 1.

They haven’t got a clue.

What this once great sport has become is saddening, maddening, and much much more.

I dont see why they wouldnt fight for victory and let Ferrari win. Its against the spirit of competition.

Considering Max alerted the stewards straight away about Lando just to win this race, the only ‘help’ Max will provide is to take points off the Ferraris (probably the Mclarens too) in Abu Dhabi

As I mentioned a few days ago, Mclaren invested a lot of resource into 7 rear wings this season- I’m not saying that was a waste but to my non-technical observations out of the top 4 Mclaren haven’t developed the floor much.

For example Ferrari, who Stella claims have the fastest car… their edge wing (on what is probably their 2025 floor) is significantly more mature than McLarens edge wing. I know it’s all about what you can’t see with these floors but the fact Ferrari are developing their edge wing must mean their under floor which we can’t see must be extremely mature as well.

Whether there is a lot of laptime to still be found- we’ll only find out next season- I have my doubts that there is much to find but currently only the teams know
Sorry mate, I have to mark my objection to this comment. McLaren is the only car on the grid, post Miami, that's consistently quick (deserving of podium) in every single race since Miami. The MCL38 has the widest 'working window' on the grid, and that's because they have the most nuanced floor on the grid. Any downforce level, any tyre, the McLaren is part of the leader pack in any track. Their development path has met their goals with every single upgrade package (unlike every other team on the grid who had atleast 1 terrible update which proved to be a downgrade).

And you say the floor is their Achilles heel ? The floor is their biggest strength.

It’s kinda unfortunate. Lando passes the first blinking screen just as it stars to blink. The double weaving flags aren’t that visible. And right after u see the screen blinking green. A yellow is a yellow . But he really enters the situation where I don’t blame him for missing it. In my opinion a double yellow should be more clear. Blinking dash or whatever. But If lando was a second later or earlier I don’t think he would have missed it.

How come Max 2 seconds in front saw it?

He missed the first screen and saw the one longer down the straight.

A physical waved yellow will ALWAYS have precedent over the light panels.

He might have caught the moment of a flickering marker, since he was infront. As far as i saw on the left though, it went on when Norris was beside. I bet Mclaren will take a good look at the video footage and if they see that board malfunctioned in that time, the race itself can get deleted.
They were flags, not boards.

That doesn't mean it was clear and obvious. He could pass the only yellows looking at his dash.
