Rules are idiotic, but what it showed is that 'awareness' is an important part of a racing driver's repertoire. Max was 2s ahead, saw the yellow (board, flags, LED, whatever) and in his mind, the 'rules' (however stupid they are) kicked in, and he lifted to avoid a penalty. Lando was blisfully unaware.
Honestly the team couldn't have asked for a better training year than this considering the goals coming in to the season.venkyhere wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:37Rules are idiotic, but what it showed is that 'awareness' is an important part of a racing driver's repertoire. It's a terrible, monstrous penalty (10s + pitstop duration, for 'not lifting' ?) , but it still doesn't take it away from the fact that the driver opened the door and provided the opportunity for external stupidity to kill his race. Mega learning for him.
Silver lining : it's good that Lando is getting all these 'finer lessons' in 2024, should keep him well prepared and polished for 2025.
That was seven years ago, people have not slowed under yellows since then..AR3-GP wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:37It's consistent: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/kimi- ... 8/4996408/

Mazepin got the same penalty in 2021 for the same thing iirc. I think those two incidents are enough precedent for this... it happens rarely because it is not typical of an F1 driver to miss this kind of thingmwillems wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:43That was seven years ago, people have not slowed under yellows since then..AR3-GP wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:37It's consistent: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/kimi- ... 8/4996408/

Fair enough, but i still don't think those flags were obvious enough and the green board shortly after distracting and misleading.SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:47Mazepin got the same penalty in 2021 for the same thing iirc. That should've served as mitigation imo. Usually when it's not cut and dry you get some lesser punishment.mwillems wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:49Fair enough, but i still don't think those flags were obvious enough and the green board shortly after distracting and misleading.SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:47Mazepin got the same penalty in 2021 for the same thing iirc. A yellow light comes on their steering wheel too.mwillems wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:49Fair enough, but i still don't think those flags were obvious enough and the green board shortly after distracting and misleading.SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:47Mazepin got the same penalty in 2021 for the same thing iirc. Double waved (and yellow) is warning you of a danger on track. If you can see that the track is clear and that there is a green flag right behind the yellow, is it really dangerous or more dangerous than doing a miniscule lift?
Doesn't seem like he had anything light up on his dash but maybe I am missing something.CjC wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:54A yellow light comes on their steering wheel too.mwillems wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:49Fair enough, but i still don't think those flags were obvious enough and the green board shortly after distracting and misleading.SoulPancake13 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:47

Lando has just had a nightmare and fair play to him he’s taking it on the chin.
Yeah, agree it was a penalty, but this was hardly a wilful infringement nor the most dangerous. I'm just miffed that the penalty applied took it beyond any appeal.organic wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:51That should've served as mitigation imo. Top left of his wheel there was a light…. Could have been his DRS light though.FittingMechanics wrote: ↑01 Dec 2024, 21:55Doesn't seem like he had anything light up on his dash but maybe I am missing something.
