Lewis is paid millions by Mercedes, and instead of whining endlessly on the radio about the car, he should show up and do his job. The car didn’t cause his false start or make him speed in the pit lane, those were his mistakes. His behavior is downright unprofessional and pathetic at this point.
this notion that complaining on the radio is unprofessional is silly, if thats the case all the drivers on the grid are unprofessional and pathetic
No other driver has whined the whole season like he has. He’s been complaining non-stop, both on the radio and off it, fueling his rabid fanbase in the process. Instead of owning up to his mistakes, he deliberately shifts blame onto the team. He knows exactly what he’s doing. This season, it’s not just the team that’s at fault, his driving has been subpar, and his behavior downright unprofessional.
Many forget that every time he speaks, it riles up his fanbase and ultimately, the team pays for it. Ferrari will be fireworks with the tifosi, Lec and LH fans together for the better or worse. I am praying for a miracle that Merc builds a rocket just for George to deny Ferrari/Mclaren the title just for his fans to pipe down.

Lewis
“It really didn’t go that great but these things happen. Don’t judge me by how many times I fall, but when I get up tomorrow and give it another go.”

“The car and I don’t get along that well. We were very far off at the beginning, we didn’t have enough wing in to start with. The cars were quite different and it wasn’t pretty great to drive.”

“But, my fault today so apologies to the team, for the false start and then the pit lane incident.”

If Hamilton had retired the car when he pulled in for the drive through, would the penalty have carried over to the next race as it wouldn't have been served?

He would have gotten a 5 sec penalty the next race for failing to serve a penalty according to Bono

In fairness to Mercedes, it was a sprint weekend, so that may have prevented them from getting the car dialed in. I'm sure they'd do things differently with the setup now.

Maybe it was the effect that Toto had predicted for Las Vegas (that as the track rubbered in more, Mercedes would fall back).

I disagree. Complain and whine as much as you want, but don't mail it in, don't ask to stop. You are paid to do a job.
He told bono to just retire the car in response to bono telling him he got a drive through penalty for speeding in the pit lane, Bono eventually told him to retire the car and Lewis ignored the order and carried on
Yeah what was that about? He ended up disregarding the order to retire the car and they didn’t insist on it. Lol
Bono didn't want to retire when Ham wanted, and gave a strong retort "negative". I guess after that Toto would've got onto the radio (privately) to Bono and told 'put this guy out of his misery, retire him'. Then we heard what Bono said, asking Lewis to retire. Lewis would've guessed this exact sequence within the chain-of-command, and just out of spite, refused to follow it and drove it till the end.

Lewis is allowed to be upset, its not like hes flinging insults over the radio, if Toto had a problem with it he'd come over the radio and say something, sacking lewis for his final race because hes upset in the moment is just silly

I would actually argue that basically every driver on the grid acts annoyingly immature whenever things dont go their way. Something about F1 really brings about the most petty, juvenile instincts of these drivers. And clearly it's not just an age thing as we see it from the juniors as well as the seniors.

I also find it jarring when the drivers are just so blatantly rude to their race engineers. I get they may be in a frustrating and high pressure situation, but I still dont think it's any good excuse to be mean to the people who are only there to try and help you.

Russell
It was a very strange race because our pace has been so strong all weekend, but it just didn’t seem to be there today. Overall, my race wasn’t great, I had a bad start then poor pace and finally a penalty at the end of the race. We ultimately didn’t have the pace on the hard tyre that we thought we would and were not quick enough compared to those around us. Max and Lando managed to pass by at the start and I didn’t have the speed to catch them again. Even after the pit stop I struggled to try and make it back through to regain my position.

The car was great all day Friday and yesterday so we need to understand where that pace went for us today. Both Lewis and I made bad starts and we have some idea why, but we need to fully understand how we lost the performance that we showed in the Sprint. I think ultimately you can see how you only need to gain two tenths or lose two tenths and you go from being a front runner to being down in P6 or P7 so I hope we can have the car from yesterday and Vegas next week in Abu Dhabi. It would be great if we can hopefully have a better weekend together as a Team.
Toto
Today we ultimately didn’t have the pace. Our car is a handful to drive on its worst days and today was one of those days and both drivers had a similar experience. I think if the race had been yesterday then we would have had a shot at winning but today we just didn’t have the speed behind Lando and Max. The car was super difficult for both Lewis and George to drive, we had a lot of understeer and both of them suffered from that. We started to lose ground from those ahead of us and that’s when we decided to box George and hopefully put us in a better situation. Unfortunately, we suffered a slow stop, then ended up in traffic and struggled to make it back through. Then with Lewis we had the false start and pit lane speeding which impacted further on his race along with the lack of pace.

We have one more to go and we will continue to give it our utmost. We will celebrate the relationship and partnership we have had with Lewis and these difficult races will be forgotten quickly. We have had an amazing partnership with Lewis that’s spanned over twelve years with six driver titles and eight constructors’ titles won together, and these are the things which we will hold dearly.

The Mercedes of Russell was bouncing quite a bit. This is something I noticed in both qualifying and the race. I compared the Red Bull of Verstappen to that of Russell on the mini-straight before the final corner. The Mercedes is clearly bouncing. The Red Bull is not. Russell's car was also bouncing in the T12-T14 area. It bounces on the main straight. It just bounced a lot everywhere today.

Credit where credit is due, GR, the political pugilist, is very good at wringing the neck of the car underneath him, and squeezing everything out of it in Qualifying.

I don't understand the attitude of Lewis just checking out. The car has been capable of racing near the front and fighting for podiums all season. That's all he's getting at Ferrari next year too, so this idea that he will be rejuvenated seems more like wishful thinking or deflection.

Mercedes are lucky that Russell is such a scrapper, like a little mongrel fighting off a bigger dog.

Russell vs Hamilton H2H 2022-2024 (one race to go):
Points: 685 vs 685
Season H2H: 2 vs 1 (calling 2024 after today).
Wins: 3 vs 2
Poles: 5 vs 1
Podiums: 14 vs 20
Care to decode this a bit for us dummies? H2H etc?
