I'd argue that the H-M was the fastest strategy actually. Charles did a stellar job at managing his race to finish P3, but if he and Hamilton are together after the opening lap then there's no chance he finishes on the podium. Wouldn't the strategy work better for Ferrari anyway? Carlos seemed pretty strong on the mediums but couldn't touch Norris on the hards.
I can't give a definitive verdict tbh, both drivers executed their strategies the best way possible and achieved maximum points with Verstappen and Piastri's incidents. Leclerc would have had much more trouble turning Hards on in heavy traffic and he definitely wouldn't have been able to pass 11 drivers to P8 in 1 lap

Considering how close Hamilton was at the end, his was the better strategy as it relied on less luck (luck being Charles having the red sea part for him to make up a bunch of positions).
There was no luck if you ask me, he took a lot of risk when he was on the inside of T1 and was able to outbreak the midfield when he took the outside of those corners. Taking such opportunities reminded me of Alonso
I thought a bunch of cars ended up taking themselves out because of the Perez Bottas contact?
Low tire start pressure this weekend specifically favoured this aspect for them, i believe. That looks to be an ideal for Ferrari.

Finishing on podium by gaining 16 positions in a dry race without (multiple) SC and a red flag is the best race this season

It was raised after FP2. The real benefit was not losing any tyre heat waiting for the grid to form
AeroGimli.x

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

The move at T6 was brilliant. It brought me back to 2019 when Leclerc's overtakes were the talk of the town. Last year and at the start of this year, he often drove lonely races where there were large gaps behind and in front of him - no overtaking opportunities. In the second half of this season we've been able to see him overtaking more often and it's been wonderful. Though I do hope next year, he'll be so far ahead in P1 that he won't need to do them

His overtake on Perez in Vegas last year was brilliant.

Are we going to get some live timing for the test or is it "closed doors" ?

I haven't seen anyone other than LeClerc, Hamilton or Verstappen being absolute masters of overtakes (not the DRS passing in a long straight even before the braking zone, but via outbraking or via switchback or via sheer outmaneuver in a succession of back to back corners). That's one of the reasons why many (including myself) consider this trio to be the 'ultra gifted talent' on the current grid.

The next two guys I would put as great overtakers are Ocon and Russel.

I don't care about the testing times, since the top teams are doing completely different things from the midfield and this ends with the midfield being "faster" on the timing board.

But... I admit I am very curious how the floor testing is going and what the general mood in the garage is like. I wish they were forced to do post-testing interviews like how they force drivers to be interviewed after sessions

Good tie up. I'm sure Mr. Andretti was very influential in getting this across the line. 8)

Is there any obvious benefit to this? Cadillac is not constrained by any budget cap or testing regulations at the moment afaik. Does this mean they can test the new Ferrari engine and gearbox earlier than the competitors ?

At Ferrari, Charles Leclerc gathered data with next season’s tires, while young drivers Antonio Fuoco (in the morning) and Arthur Leclerc (in the afternoon) focused on work essential for correlating track and factory data. Antonio Fuoco, in particular, prioritized data collection over chasing lap times.

"Today we managed to gather data in homogeneous climatic and track conditions. For me, as a simulator driver, it was crucial to work on correlation: tomorrow we’ll return to Maranello to verify some of the insights gathered here," said Fuoco.

Interestingly, the two SF-24s on track had quite different aerodynamic configurations. Charles Leclerc continued with the setup seen during the race weekend, featuring the Monza-spec floor and a medium-downforce rear wing. Meanwhile, the car driven by the rookies used an experimental floor, debuted during practice in Las Vegas and then used to great effect by Leclerc throughout the Qatar weekend. In this case, the rear wing was the medium-high downforce configuration from Doha, suitable for critical correlation work, especially regarding ride heights, a key factor for this new generation of cars.

Ferrari also saw Jerome d’Ambrosio present at the track. The Deputy Team Principal, reporting directly to Fred Vasseur since October, also heads the Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA). His official debut in Ferrari red coincided with the presence of two FDA members on track: Antonio Fuoco and Arthur Leclerc.

Even more significantly, Loic Serra, the new Technical Director, made his official on-track debut following Enrico Cardile’s departure for Aston Martin, which begins in less than a month. It is said that Serra very closely monitored Leclerc's tire testing, and it cannot be understated how important this was.

Leclerc (and Fuoco) said they would be heading back to Maranello for a few days to really crunch these numbers before the break. Glad to see the entire team united and working hard... but I hope they can relax for a few weeks! They deserve it

This is an interesting take given Alonso's body of work, Lando's overtake on LEC at Monza way back in 2021, Oscar making multiple overtakes around the outside this year on like tires, not to mention his move on LEC at Baku etc etc

It’s not like he said Leclerc has never been overtaken lol. Everyone will have good overtakes in their catalogue, it is just who is consistently better at them.

I think the entire concept could be simplified into: Which drivers are the best / most comfortable during wheel-to-wheel racing? Leclerc and Verstappen are certainly atop my list; Hamilton is up there, too.

I agree with you about Piastri, he has demonstrated some impressive wheel-to-wheel racing recently, credit to him. Lando, I don't see it, and tend to think he isn't particularly strong wheel-to-wheel (of course you can find impressive moments, but we're talking about the overall balance of their respective racing careers).

Alonso, you can't argue with his body of work, and it's incredible he's still racing at this age, but this season wasn't particularly impressive. I guess some of that can be chalked up to a poor racecar, and that's fair to an extent, but Alonso didn't have many performances where I recall him having a uniquely strong drive and elevating the racecar. Heck, he was pretty well schooled at COTA by Lawson during wheel-to-wheel.

I see your COTA for Alonso, and raise you Miami for Hamilton.
