Red Bull RB21

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

They have gone bare carbon fibre on the front wing elements instead of painting them ?

Crucial weight saved: WCC confirmed.

I consider my leg pulled. The difference between the RB20 and the RB21 seems like a particularly minor update. Something is off.

Down below I've listed a couple of important changes between the two cars, with subtle rear suspension changes indicating at least new gearbox case with new pickup points. Can't say anything conclusive about the front though

The floor is new and I've pointed out the things we can see now. There's also a new double-deck beam wing by the looks of it

Not gonna do a deep dive with oldish bodywork and front/rear wing, you can read all about RB18, 19 and 20 here - including the details about their wings, floors and much more:

Could it be that they try to start with a basis similar to last years car but with a better basis, and then add on the update parts?

Remember when Max tested the RB18 in Imola in June last year, are there any similarities here with what they have done with RB21

the RB18 is below

Apologies for posting an old car but with the images above, it might show any things that the designers have gone back to after that Imola test.

I'm really struggling to see a new rear geometry here. I can see the G line and beam wing, the rest looks incredibly minor.

Inboard attachment of pushrod has been moved rearwards.

Upper forward wishbone inboard attachment has been raised + moved rearwards

The race claim the rb21 chassis is the same as the rb20

At least in the renders, they actually shortened the nose to not extend to the 1st element, which I called out last season as the "got too greedy part". Let's see if the actual car is the same though (post Bahrain test).

Isn't it risky to start with the old chassis and risking having to change it during the season?

So it really was the RB21 seeing now Lawson on track

Yeah it surely has a ton of underbody updates! But this reminds me of Ducati in Motogp a few days ago! They just couldn’t find any improvements so they just kept their old bike…

Vortex generating extensions to floor fence that appeared end of 2024 have made it to the rb21 too

There LOOKS to be a small change in front top wishbone rear leg from those image. Notably, both the chassis "patch" and the location APPEAR to have been lifted on the tub to bring that leg input slightly higher.

The images are very slightly different in camera elevation (look at "planar" alignment across top surface of safety hoop ) to give some error in view. Nevertheless, there seems to be some subtle shift in that dimension apparent.
