Exactly. Newey is a very talented manager who clearly knows how to get the most out of his team, but people make it sound like he's a magician.

No, he is/was a very talented designer, but we are now in the era of managers. I.e. the technical director needs to know design, but more than that needs to know how to organize the people doing the real design work under them. Newey was an old school, hands on, draw on paper designer. He specifically disliked the managerial part of it hence why he over time became more of a consultant who worked on his own time, instead of day to day managerial tasks that fell to Waché.

That he dislikes it does not mean that he isn't good at it. Newey built the Red Bull team that produced all of their championship winning cars, even if he decided to take a step back and work as a consultant. Newey the manager built their team. Newey the designer was responsible for the RB18 and RB19 suspension.

Doesn't matter if you are good or bad at something if you don't do it. Newey's role at RB was literally tailored to a savant designer who disliked managerial tasks and wanted to focus on designs that he found interesting, the suspension being an example.

Imagine Max taking pole again next weekend in a tractor. Highly unlikely I know, but it would funny. In reality we should aim at least for the second row in qualy.

Jeddah should be far more suitable. That track historically doesn't have much degradation. The car when not being handicapped by band-aid rearwings has good straightline speed.

I mean, after today, if I was managing Max, I would also want him to leave Red Bull. Max is in the best years of his career right now. There's probably a 5 year window from now and you better have him in cars that can be consistently good.

I mean, after today, if I was managing Max, I would also want him to leave Red Bull. Max is in the best years of his career right now. There's probably a 5 year window from now and you better have him in cars that can be consistently good.

He probably has longer, 8-10 years at least.
But its not looking good for Max tenure at Red Bull. His odds of 6/1 to join Mercedes is looking value right now.

I am 60y, long time enjoying F1 , several teams have had their downfall, but this at Red Bull… Max in his prime, he deserves a better car and a team wich is a team, this is a turningpoint

It definitely seems like Horner/Red Bull took their eyes off the ball in multiple ways.

Their new Wind Tunnel will come online too late for the new regulations.
They lost their star designer.
What a driver learns in the sim doesn't really translate to the track.
Now they are starting to make bad calls on strategy(again perhaps fault of the faulty simulations) and bad pit stops.

At this point it's not just losing their way with car design.

I don't think it's about allies/enemies anymore within red bull. Marko's recently said he won't leave red bull to go to another team (even if Verstappen does) and Marko has been talking about how he's afraid Verstappen will leave the team. To me it seems like Marko is trying to put Red Bull first still

No he’s not . Marko already said when Max goes, he will probably just retire. He’s 80+ years old. He owns several hotels. Why would he follow Max to another team? Marko can’t stay in the picture forever. He’s of retirement age.

Marko and Max and Vermuellen want the same things. What do you think Marko is doing? Defending the continued mediocrity of Red Bull? Of course not…Marko isn’t going to tell Max to stay at Red Bull in a mediocre car “because my job is to make you”. Marko will tell it like it is. They are beyond work colleagues. Verstappen as prepared to leave if Marko was sacked.

Of course they could already know that next year’s engine is terrible….then it would be a proper crisis meeting…

Asked about what the root cause of the issue was, Horner added: “I've just heard that there was some kind of wiring or electrical issue with the gantry. It's one I certainly haven't seen before.

“The drivers live by those traffic lights and the actual stops were pretty good; one of them was a two-second stop. But then the driver's waiting for the lights and then obviously it didn't go out.

“Everything's gone into quarantine and we'll have a good look at it.”
