I mean after FP2 it was looking like Q2 was the max. Maybe for a change the car performs better than expected

Everybody forget, that many teams upgrades was for reduce the flexibility of the wings and other parts, because of from Spain new TD test rules. This could help some teams, just loke Aston.FNTC wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 19:39https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GrKiftxWQAA-03w?format=jpg
Let's make Newey have lunch with the AMR25 aero team more often.![]()
of course stroll was "the faster guy" if you ignore every lap from every practice except the one that DIDNT count haha. still waiting i see.-wkst- wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 19:11The thing that STR was probably the faster guy in Q3, faster on new softs, tyre disadvantage compared to ALO on the mediums (ALO’s tyre just had 1 outlap, STR’s set outlap-Flyer-inlap) but less than 2 tenths slower, clearly indicates that the updates work I guess…
On the other side the tyre picture is tricky. HAD and GAS also did 15.7 on new softs like STR in Q3, the Williams a bit quicker.
STR destroyed his chances for a better result in Q1, being too slow and therefore forced to use the first medium set.zoroastar wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 20:11of course stroll was "the faster guy" if you ignore every lap from every practice except the one that DIDNT count haha. still waiting i see.-wkst- wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 19:11The thing that STR was probably the faster guy in Q3, faster on new softs, tyre disadvantage compared to ALO on the mediums (ALO’s tyre just had 1 outlap, STR’s set outlap-Flyer-inlap) but less than 2 tenths slower, clearly indicates that the updates work I guess…

yeah im just messin haha. im actually pretty optimistic for race pace tomorrow. their free practices were hard to get any answers about that. hopefully they can pull their strategies together along with this upgrade and keep their positions in the race.-wkst- wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 20:31STR destroyed his chances for a better result in Q1, being too slow and therefore forced to use the first medium set.zoroastar wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 20:11of course stroll was "the faster guy" if you ignore every lap from every practice except the one that DIDNT count haha. still waiting i see.-wkst- wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 19:11The thing that STR was probably the faster guy in Q3, faster on new softs, tyre disadvantage compared to ALO on the mediums (ALO’s tyre just had 1 outlap, STR’s set outlap-Flyer-inlap) but less than 2 tenths slower, clearly indicates that the updates work I guess…

But emotions aside, as this is still the f1technical forum, STR was faster in Q3 on equal tyres, first run, and less than 2 tenths slower with a clear tyre disadvantage in the 2nd run. I think that’s very positive for the team. Every time STR is closely matched, the car has potential. Q2 was close between them as well, half a tenth gap.

Any kind of top 10 finish on merit would be a huge improvement on their form.
If we're being honest, it most likely would have been another Q2 exit for Aston Martin without the medium tyre strategy.Seanspeed wrote: ↑17 May 2025, 22:57Any kind of top 10 finish on merit would be a huge improvement on their form.
Newey may be focused on 2026, but there's no way he wasn't at least being consulted on their upgrade direction. It's just impossible to believe that Aston having their first successful upgrade package in basically years after Newey joins is just a pure coincidence.
