I think it's a bit early to rate Tsunoda in any case. The gap was likely 6 tenths without Max's wheel spin exiting T1. 6 tenths was the same gap to Perez on this track last year and we know how the rest of the season went. We'll know the car is better if Yuki is doing well on the tracks that Perez was not which is the entire 2nd half of the season outside of Baku.

I missed watching the Q entirely, and looking the the Q laptimes :
1. McLaren didn't change anything on their car, and have posted roughly same pole time as SQ3 pole time
2. Redbull changed added wing and went topsy turvy with the setup - prioritized S2 and sacrificed top speed in S1 ; I am assuming this is considering a rainy race.
3. However, Max's Q time isn't very different w.r.t SQ3 pole time, less than a tenth better. What was gained in S2 was lost in S1 and S3 remained roughly same.
What we can be sure of, is that kemmel straight is no longer attackable or defendable for Max, he might sit in the middle of a DRS train throughout the race.

Questions which I have :

A) what is the front wing now on Max's RB21 ?
the Silverstone one with uppermost element having regular shape
OR
the new Spa one with uppermost element having valley and peak
OR
totally different wing from pre-Silverstone with higher DF, inorder to match the medium DF rear wing that is on the car now

B) how much laptime was lost due to the T1 mistake in Q3 ?

It would be amusing if Tsunoda turned his season around after Horner got fired.

So it turns out the no.2 Red Bull car is capable of making it out of Q1 when the team isn't purposely just not giving the no.2 car upgrades or parts so the no.1 driver can have them as spares or replacements.

I've always suspected this type of BS ever since Mark Weber was at RB with his forever broken KERS that only ever occurred on his car.

Never expected them to just come out and say it.

Infact, it seems to be much more public when one driver has parts the other doesn't these days.

Red Bull's no.2 car was in Q3 at Spa every single year since 2020. That spans Albon, Perez, and Tsunoda. We have to challenge ourselves to actually think critically on this forum.

If Red Bull's "updates" were worth so much laptime this year to take Tsunoda from Q1 to Q3, Verstappen would actually be fighting for the championship. What's happened here at Spa doesn't seem to be anything more than the usual Red Bull track favoring that allowed all of Albon, Perez, and Tsunoda to make Q3 here no matter how poorly they performed before and after Spa. Tsunoda also benefitted from being able to change his setup. Red Bull friday setups are always poor. Spa has big field spread, so there's bigger window to qualify into. Norris was 6 tenths off yesterday and still started P3 in the sprint. Perez was 6 tenths off last year and started P2. Tsunoda when you account for his low downfroce qualy trim wing, as well as Verstappen's higher downforce wing and mistakes, was still somewhere around 6 tenths back. On any other circuit this is a Q1/Q2 knockout again.

What some don't seem to notice are the actual gaps. Tsunoda was 2 tenths behind Max when he was knocked out in Q1 in Austria. 2 tenths. With the supposed old car with no upgrades that could only enter Q3 with a magical 7 tenths upgrade package that Red Bull have been hiding from him...are people this naive? Max still isn't fighting for the championship with the "updates" which underlines what they are worth...

Verstappen's Q3 lap 1:40.903 (P4). Apart from T1 which wasnt good the rest of the lap looks solid. It seems they remapped deployment too as the car now clips and drops speed after 337 kmh. Yesterday it went to 343 without any clipping.

Could it just be that the bigger wing consumes more energy to cover the same distance? (more time spent on straight but same amount of deployment time due to battery capacity and 120kW, so it runs out before the end). The wheel spin events also could have consumed ERS energy without contributing to the forward propulsion.

Also the wheel spin happens twice. The first time exiting the final chicane (which put him down on the delta heading into T1), and the 2nd time is after La source (which puts him down on the kemmel). Without this I think they could have challenged the Mclarens. The rest of the lap was fine, especially the braking into the chicane. I wonder if that's going to be an overtaking spot tomorrow. The bigger wing is not only keeping more grip on the rear tires in the braking, but also working like an air brake.

I think the wing has also given them a very strong braking into both of the low speed corners on the track (la source and chicane). It looked like he wass gaining 2 tenths into La source , and then 2 tenths braking into the chicane at the end of the lap. If it's wet tomorrow, then I think he will need to use that to pass. There won't be any DRS.

Gap to Mclaren in Q1 was .324 seconds
Gap to Mclaren in Q2 was .325 seconds
Gap to Mclaren in Q3 was .341 seconds

That might just have been the gap today regardless of any hypothetical laps without wheelspin. I thought Piastri could have gone quicker as well so taking that into account, it makes sense. The gap was 3-3.5 tenths with perfect laps for all.
