Hamilton is performing at a high level most weekends too. Just not in qualifying. He has an average finishing of P6 which isn't bad at all in this car. As reference Leclerc has an average of P5 (P4 without Silverstone) so it's not like Hamilton is miles off.

Hamilton is still good in the races, he's just not special anymore in one lap pace.

Do we know if the drivers ran different set ups?

I think Hamilton still has the higher downforce rear wing.

Like I said last week, Hamilton is now not even close to the Hamilton that many know as a 7 time champion and Ferrari truly screwed up in bringing him in, at least as far as F1 goes, I have ZERO interest in the marketing pros, from an F1 perspective they messed up big time!

2026 will be very telling for Lewis.

Several commentators have mentioned that the ground effect cars do not suit Hamilton’s natural driving style. The new cars should be closer to what he prefers.

Now whether he should have been able to adapt or not is a whole other debate, but if the new regs don’t suit him then I don’t think anyone will be surprised to see him retire at the end of 2026.

For me, I think the reality is he is now to old, and the 2026 reg changes isn't going to change that.
I think he is still a capable driver and on his day could still produce something.
But, if I have to ask myself if he could trouble the current top drivers, those 3/4/5 drivers that have that something extra, I just don't see it, certainly not over a sting of weekends.

The 2026 regs is more in Lewis direction. He just can't feel the car in ground effect. The 2026 rules will bring back cars to a more linear ramp of aero loading.

I wanna thank the tv director for once again being the most incompetent person at the track.

Showing outlaps while LEC is within 0.1s of the top time and puts a purple s2, as the only driver setting a lap at the time.

It takes a special kind of dedication to prefer shots of pit walls or in/out laps to a LEC lap as the only driver setting a lap.

Pure unadulterated incompetence.

Wow, absolutely shocked on this one but for once in a good way! Great lap for Charles. I thought this was going to be a case where the temperature dropping favoured Mercedes and hurt us but somehow Charles wrestled it home! Great lap. Let’s focus on that rather than Hamilton tbh.

I wonder if not waiting in a train on pit lane exit is something they have learned for better tyre prep? Seems straightforward / obvious but seemed to help. Seems like a lower downforce setting may also help us stay ahead tomorrow so

They did. Lewis had higher DF, about 5kph slower. But he lost time from T6-7 and on which is the lower part of track. I think he's not confident in the rear, pure and simple.

He doesn't like the throw the rear of the car around, while LEC is comfortable with it, been the story all year and will continue to be, he's going to perform in front limited tracks, but rear limited tracks will remain a struggle.

Lewis doesn't trust the ground effect handling at all. He was fine with wagging the tail in previous regs... His best ground efect year is 2023.. But he still got that P3 mostly on consistency that outright magic behind the wheel.

This was the first bad quali in terms of pace since a few weekends for Lewis. SPA was impacted by two mistakes and not his pace.

Got to feel for Lewis horrible seeing him so down like that. Little mistakes can do that like on his lap. I just don’t think he can drive his natural way of driving with these regs he doesn’t fully trust the car or feel it to be able to push like he naturally would. Braking is different and he is all about late braking the rear is unpredictable for him and can’t trust it. It’s all about confidence in a driver and Lewis isn’t feeling confident. Next years regs going away from ground effect should help him get that feeling back.

I hope the tyres perform better next year too. Just look at Quali today it’s all about that magical window to get the best out of them or if the track temperature is just right. The difference when the temp dropped so many gained. So happy for Charles what a lap was down to that temperature drop though that is when the Ferrari came alive. Hate these Pirelli tyres and the scriptive BS they have to follow they have never got them right. Wouldn’t it be nice if drivers could go flat out for at least 3 laps on soft tyres

Ferrari has less downforce than Aston Martin with the difference that it's way less draggy. Absolutely hilarious.

Do you think the lower downforce might help us stay ahead if it's dry?

In the first stint, LEC could hold stations due to track-specific, not to mention that he is some 4kph faster than both PIA and NOR ... but unfortunately in free air Macca boys are at least 2-3 tenths faster if not faster ... further more his setup choice, with a lower than usual DF levels for this track would force him to do more tyre management hence lower lap times ... so there are slim chances for a win for him, but bigger ones for a podium/3rd place ...

While his setup choice could very well end up harming him, it could also prove to be the right choice if others have overcompensated for expected conditions that don't materialise...

Regardless, unless there are incidents, safety cars or stupid pit decisions, I don't see anyone other than the McLarens troubling him.

Realistically I think he is looking at 3rd.
