Lando’s dnf could have big implications on overall pace.

They may turn the engine downs even more during GPs. They might open up the cooling a bit more and suffer a higher drag penalty, then there is the possible engine penalties which may need to be taken.

Not ideal to be worrying about reliability when it’s Monza of all places next week!

Can I admit. That while I like the co stant winning, and winning comfortably, i wouldn't mind other teams actually challenging.
Yeah, it has been a bit boring in terms of action as a Mclaren fan, at least since the first few races where we were fighting the car a bit.

Lando will have a brand new engine though.

Can't understand why we have been running so hard in the FPs. But then again, once the first engine is swapped out, that becomes the Friday engine anyway.

A big shame we didn't get 5th 1-2 in a row. But this was bound to happen.

I can see at least two positives.
1. It would be super unfair if Piastri while ahead in the championship lost his lead (or WDC in the end) due to a singular engine DNF. Not to mention the conspiracy theories it would start.
2. Norris will take eventual loss in WDC better with this DNF. If he ends up losing it wasn't just his mistakes, it was bad luck as well.

Great drive by both drivers. Norris probably had this in the bag if he was just a tiny bit faster in Q3. Imagine if he lost a win by this engine failure.
Don't think this DNF matters much in the grand scheme of things. He loses the WDC because he has seemingly lost whatever advantage he had over Oscar this year. He is not vastly superior in tire management anymore, he does not have the quali pace over Oscar anymore and he is certainly not less error-prone than he was last year. There's just no way you can win the championship when you're not doing anything better than your teammate. This DNF pretty much equalizes what happened in Australia. This is what the gap was supposed to be.

I admit this Oscar pace this year has surprised me. Literally everything he was lacking last year, he has turned it around this year. Improvement in pretty much every weak area and hasn't lost any of his strengths. I do think Lando is having a bit of a weak season overall so that might be "flattering" Oscar a bit in that regard, but it's quite impressive to see how he has turned it around on every bad track he had last year.

good win. The only thing going through my mind was with Hadjar behind Verstappen, no one was going to have a go at Max.
I think Lando is more hardy than people give him credit for - he will be ok. Its when it is his own fault he beats himself up

Doesn't matter? He was reigning Oscar in over the last 6 races. I thought he was going to nip it to the title, before today.

He will but Oscar won’t, will they decide to slightly compromise Oscar’s overall pace to see him finish the season with the engines he’s got?

Australia? Didn't Oscar lose control on a wet corner? Bit different to Lando having an engine go bang.

I also feel Monza won’t be a slam dunk for McLaren either. If Lando has to start P11 or 12 he’ll do VERY well finish on the podium

Im think it was anyone's title, and not nailed on for either. But Lando had been clawing it back, and was likely in the ascendancy. But this is just to big a loss, especially as the car is so far away the best. Its looks impossible to not come first or second.

I do think Lando compromised himself at the start of the season with his form. Both had incidents, but Lando's start to the season was too aggressive in a car he couldn't get comfortable in. Several races of overdriving and silly mistakes in Q and R. He's sorted it now (In general), but if he'd had a smarter approach he would now still be within reach of Oscar.

It certainly was anyone's, but I just thought Lando was the slight favourite.

But it isn't over, Oscar also has an older Merc engine.

I did expect Oscar to be close to Lando this year, as I said at the start of the year. Since Lando got back up to speed, he was starting to impose himself on the championship and Oscar, slightly. But that's in the dirt now.

Sad thing is, that I think Oscar will outdevelop Lando. But, next years car will be a lottery in terms of the driver's style that suits it.

The fist handful of races is where he put himself on the back foot. Even then, if he hadn't messed up Canada he would be ahead before today.

Since then hes been good, today just one of those things.

So was that Lando's last engine?

I hope this doesn't make Oscar go conservative, I've loved the combative stuff.
