Really ?
"closing up partially/reducing the size of" brake ducts adds downforce ? (or reduces drag rather?)
Can someone explain in simple language how it adds downforce ?
Well this comes from an engineer that last worked for Ferrari in 2009. So all this is just big if true...

Just a guess, but perhaps it means they can run slightly more wing?

Toto wants Max, and without Max, why would they need Charles? Just like any other team, if they build a car that's head and shoulders above their rivals. They might have worse drivers (unlikely significantly worse), but they'll likely be much cheaper than Charles.

If that guy really said that, I would take out his degree, and if I were Ferrari I would eliminate any record of his employment there out of shame. There have to be limits to nonsense in technical topics.

A very very very simple way of thinking about is to look at the volume of air available to the teams. At a given speed a car will see a given volume of air, and the teams have to do numerous things with that flow.
  • Feed the engine
  • Cool the engine and various other components
  • Cool the breaks
  • generate downforce
So, hypothetically if a team can get buy with less front break cooling, they can use the excess flow for other things further down stream. For example, they might be able to use it to create more powerfully fortifies to control the flow around the sidepods, and thus feed more flow over the diffuser. What they are actually doing (if anything), is only going to be known by members of the team.

Lots happening in Italy for Ferrari this week... Charles (Leclerc) in Maranello, possibly Bearman too, Arthur (Leclerc) doing TPC testing in Fiorano - apparently they added some new features to the track to improve correlation, plus of course Elkann giving a speech at the EV reveal reaffirming his "commitment to the Formula 1 team," whatever that means

Ferrari lost -15% this week, almost 12 billion Euros, putting their share back to what it was in January 2024.

Surprised no one has linked it to Hamilton being unhappy or something

Seems like it's because investors weren't happy with their developments in EV. It's a pretty big loss, we'll have to see if it impacts the F1 team..

That's a VERY volatile sector for anyone involved in it. Seriously doubt the F1 team would impact sentiment there. People are scared of loosing their shirt not their pride in F1 championship.

It sucks! But I wonder if they know what ride-height McLaren and RedBull are running are are having technical problems replicating it?

The ride height limites can be to a very small extent baked into the chassis shape, but I don't think that is Ferrari's problem as that can be solved with new suspension arms components adn the like. It sounds like the SPACE they have allocated to house the FRONT suspension is too small and they can do diddly squat to get any new solutions in place. Remember how Mercedes changed a whole new rear suspension housing recently to underwhelming effect, but they have sorted out the gremlins now. It seems Ferrari is just stuck with this tiny broke-back suspension.

Nah this was a red herring. it wasn't that. that's a reddit tin-foil. Stock price fell because lower than expected profits, and a tempered outlook for new supercar sales.
