most frustrating thing is that in the end speed was there in the car, they just managed to switch it on this night, how bad was the car preparation work ahead of the weekend ?

The car had better speed but a lot of the perceived race pace improvement came from him having two new mediums whereas the McLaren had one. Lando had really good pace when he was on the medium.

I get it but surely the car was in a much better place than last two days, that is quite unacceptable imho

They are able to do something to put the car in a good spot some way or the other. Reminds me of Qatar last year.

I'm wondering if they should have stopped at all on that last one...but we'll never know now. Lawson did 52 laps on the medium tire and finished P7 ahead of Hadjar who stopped twice.

I think P2 was there if they just stayed out but any podium at all from the pitlane, you can't complain.

Legendary drive by Max, from P19 to P3. The fight for WDC is over now, but that was lost in the middle of the season, most importantly the spirit is still there. Was a little bit in tears after today. The new engine helped of course and a setup just for race, also Red Bull had a lot of new tyres. Hards werent quite good, I think we were lucky to had that puncture and a VSC at the same time. Otherwise Max would finish about p5 or p4 lets say. Also Max had to stay out for 35 laps on the mediums until the end, which wasnt possible, as deg was quite high. He would fall behind Norris, probably also Kimi. But what I can see, its a fantastic sunday after yesterday...

maybe, yeah. I guess it would have needed more management early to get to the end properly on that set, but Norris' and Antonelli's final stint on used mediums didn't really turn out to be stellar either.

Never, deg was very high on that red bull, Lando would have a easy pass. Win was never on without safety car. Without VSC we wouldnt finish that high...

Never they did the right thing, deg was very high on that red bull, Lando would have a easy pass. Win was never on without safety car. Without VSC we wouldnt finish that high...

Maybe, but the new soft was too tempting. Sometimes the soft has better deg at the very end on low fuel and with the track fully rubbered in. That wasn't really the case today.

And? Antonelli was like 7s behind Lando. So P2 was thrown away at least.

It still doesn't change the fact that they didn't even bother trying though. What did they have to lose by staying out? A late SC is perfectly beneficial. They have track position. Norris has to pass Max, not on entirely new tires but at least somewhat used tires.

I don't think hards were good enough to make that work as well as the eventual strategy panned out. If he doesn't overtake cars like he was overtaking, then the podium goes further and further away. You spend 1 lap behind the lower midfield and thats 1 second lost to the lead.

It's not about the hards being good, it's about not doing an extra pit stop and losing a bunch of positions. Doing 10-15 more laps on the hard and then medium-medium to the end would have been preferable.

But there was no SC if we look back. There was no difference between P2 or P3 for me today from the pits. Just an absolute mega drive by Max, one to remember. Lando would always win today, he was just saving his tyres, Max had to use his tyres and was always in traffic. This is why they they boxed him early in that stint, Lando was gaining more that 0,5-0,6s per lap, also they had to cover Piastri. And also remember, Leclerc would probably be on the podium this race without that crash with Piastri. And Piastri without his penalty would have been P2. We were slightly lucky, but Max with his determination/skill/clean overtakes made it work.
