Maybe people misunderstand Adrian's role. He doesn't design every part. He sets direction and targets. It doesn't mean he handles the minutiae. There are designers and aerodynamicist for the details.TyreSlip wrote: ↑26 Nov 2025, 22:25But he is in essence taking on a role that Horner would be responsible for too.Xyz22 wrote: ↑26 Nov 2025, 21:13This is more or less the same role he had at Red Bull. He was the de facto TP of the Technical side of the company.TyreSlip wrote: ↑26 Nov 2025, 20:49If we look at this realistically, Newey spending more time on the managerial side of getting things the way he wants means there is less time for him to be working creatively on the design board. I feel Newey is wasting his valuable time by being at the track for 24 weekends of the year.
I've said this before, I think he's got people there to handle the day to day TP work, Like Krack and Cardile. He's probably just gonna oversee the work. Cowell wasn't at every race. Everything that makes a car fast comes out of the factory, including pitstops.
Newey said that his main mistake the first time he arrived at RB is that he cared too much about the car and not enough about the organization, culture and infrastructure. In the current F1 there are hundreds of people that work on the car, therefore having a strong technical area is paramount to compete at the top, even if you have Newey.TeamKoolGreen wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025, 00:42Well well well...
Newey as TP ? Newey likes to have things his way so it makes sense from that standpoint I guess. Newey was probably telling Stroll everything that was wrong with the team and Stroll probably said "lets make you the TP then." In todays F1 it just doesn't make sense though. That's too much for one guy. He's supposed to be in a flow state designing the car. And he'll be getting sidetracked with managing personnel and making the trains run on time ?
Does this mean that Horner is out as a possibility ?
Well making Newey the Team Principle resolves this concern of mine quite nicely. Gotta say I love the move. It's not without risks, not every engineer guru who steps up to lead the team can be Ross Brawn (as Binotto's troubled tenure showed), but my gut says always bet on Newey.SealTheRealDeal wrote: ↑23 Nov 2025, 21:14I think my main worry in all this is that Newey's position as Managing Technical Partner has recreated the "Two Popes" issue that Szafnauer had complained of, where his ability to lead the team as CEO and Team Principle was undermined by the existence of a parallel authority with overlapping jurisdictions ("Group CEO" Martin Whitmarsh).
Yeah this wouldnt be surprising if its true. I cannot imagine a scenario where everything was working great and the team that was there before Newey had put together this super promising car for 2026 and the Newey would suddenly want to fire a whole bunch of people and undertake major shake ups in team structure.
10 Kgs is approximately estimated to be equal to 0.3 to 0.4 secs based on track, etc. under previous regs. This lap time delta also corresponds to about 15 HP. So its not nothing. Obviously, this is only a factor depending on the overall weight of the car.
yeah i think newey is there until horner comes in. newey isnt gonna be spending time with media and all the other typical stuff that TPs do outside of designing race cars. i think newey recognized that cowell isnt the best person in that role and made the call. doesnt mean they had a beef though. just an educated decision.
could be. well have to wait and see. i didnt see that one coming, but if it works... it would be pretty stupid to bet against the guy. my doubts about him remaining in TP long term have to do with his ability to not get caught up in the typical stuff that horner would excell at. horner loves being in front of a camera and letting the world know how great his team is hahaSealTheRealDeal wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025, 03:39Well making Newey the Team Principle resolves this concern of mine quite nicely. And if Newey doesn't want to do media duties or whatever... that's what Mike Krack is for, right?
You think they did this to stop horner? Newey is not ok with horner?FittingMechanics wrote: ↑27 Nov 2025, 09:43Newey is taking this role so Horner cannot. That's the simple of it.
