Straight mode will have zones defined for it, former DRS zones seem more realistic option than the one you outlined.

Turn 5 seems especially problematic to take in low downforce.

I would think the FIA takes a conservative approach for the first couple of races: While they just stated, that everything not traction limited will be a straight mode zone, they will play it safe and not enable it for the fast corners in the beginning.
But it will definitely be more than just the former DRS Zones IMHO.

Turn 5 seems especially problematic to take in low downforce.
F1 needs turns where drivers push the boundaries of the car and play with the throttle pedde.

Turn 5 is perfect for that, maybe there is a line that allows fulll throttle, while others do small part throttle moment.

God forbid they should pull off a four wheel drift.

Personally would prefer option 3, they should let drivers choose where the straight mods are activated. If Doohan wanted to do turn 1 Suzuka with wings open, he should be allowed to.

Yeah that will not happen. They will play this safe, no one wants a driver injured or dead because they were pushing through a corner with straight line mode.

The system will have autoclose feature.

Ah, they mandate the zones. How boring. I thought they could use it in the race like 2011 in practice in qualifying. : D
Maybe a tad too dangerous. Haha.

It's basically DRS rebranded.

I don't see why people fail to notice that! :?

Anyway. I agree that the same DRS zones will be used.

Why is it not? Do tell..

We had moveable front flaps in 2009.
We had F-duct in 2010 (manual fluid switch) and 2011 (passive fluid switch).
Then there was the moveable rear flap afterward.

This Y mode or whatever isn't new.

Rebranded means only different name, this has now a different purpose and a complete integration.
The things you mentioned from the past are a nice touch but still don't change the value of your comment.

Overtake mode - Get a power boost when within one second to aid overtaking.

Boost mode - Driver chooses when to deploy the full power of the power unit.

Straight/Corner modes - adjust the wing set-up on the fly from different drag levels. It is implied in this thread that this could be limited to certain zones on the track.

In my mind all these tools were available in previous guises but now repackaged and rebranded.

I have gotten a board warning for posting this. So I am backing out of the thread. I won't post anymore about anything on this topic for 2026. Goodbye gents!
