It was 4 degrees Celcius this morning! It was -2°C last night!

"Sun is out, but we don’t expect more than 6°C today, although it will help cleaning the ice from the track"

Racing Bulls VCARB03: the ice limits the filming day in Imola to 33 laps

Faenza's team had to wait for the second part of the morning to shoot at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari. Lawson and Limdblad had a chance to discover the VCARB03 and the new RBPT-Ford power unit that showed no functional problem ahead of the tests that will begin Monday in Barcelona.

After the 15 km of shake down that we documented well yesterday, Racing Bulls stayed at Enzo and Dino Ferrari to make the first filming day with the VCARB03, the car of the Faenza team that will face the 2026 season with the new technical regulations that have revolutionized the cars.

The bad weather accompanied the work of the team that was present in Imola: the goal was to travel the 200 km that the FIA grants with demo tires to also carry out commercial shooting. The asphalt this morning was not only wet, but even icy so it was necessary to postpone the entry of Liam Lawson for obvious safety reasons.

Conditions improved as they were gradually improving, although temperatures remained particularly cold: at the end of the day, 33 laps were covered with the two starting drivers. After the more experienced Lawson it was the turn of Arvid Lindblab, the rookie who yesterday was the protagonist of an off-piste at the Variante Villeneuve. Nothing serious so much so that the British with Indian and Swedish origins today was able to discover more carefully the car that was made in Faenza by the technical staff directed by Tim Goss.

Obviously great attention was devoted to the new power unit: Imola made its debut the unit produced by Red Bull Powertrains in collaboration with Ford Motorsport that transforms the structure of Milton Keynes into a real Manufacturer.

In total, between yesterday and today, about 170 km have been covered without particular reliability problems having emerged, neither the 6-cylinder turbo, nor the electric motor, two elements that almost evenly divide the power for a sum that should exceed a thousand horsepower.

Despite the environmental difficulties, the first examination has been passed brilliantly: now the material that must be shipped to Barcelona will be prepared, where on Monday 26 January the five-day closed-door collective tests will begin.

Each team will only be able to take to the track in three of the five days on the calendar: McLaren has announced that it will skip Monday and it is very likely that several other teams will follow the example of the world champions.

Nice! Car looks pretty speedy on the straights considering they're not using any low drag mode. Hard to know exactly when it's deploying but you can see sometimes it really punches out of the corners.

That airbox is BONKERS. That's a ridiculous amount of centreline cooling. I've never seen anything like it. I can't recall an airbox nearly as insane looking as this since the 1970s.

Alpine 2021 had something similar, maybe even more volume in the centreline with a vertically stacked dual intake.

That 2021 Alpine airbox is massive, but compare it to the helmet of the driver. It's nowhere near as large. It might not even have half of the centerline cooling capacity.

The dual inlet area may be slightly smaller in total but the volume of the "neck" is bigger on the Alpine. Either VCARB has smaller radiators or some of that air is being channeled deeper into the car.

Highly unlikely, but would be funny.

When I see Dan Fallows returning to the RB organization, I couldn't help but think "You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me."
