FIA has scrapped Straight line mode between T6 and T9 for safety races. lmao.

(1) Clipping/LICO/ will be absolutely insane this weekend
(2) Are the fuel tanks big enough to compensate?

How many more circuits will they cancel SLM mode?
It's mental - I think a big part of the issue is the 8MJ per lap rule combined with the battery size. They just can't harvest enough or deploy enough energy - the racing is going to be bizarre!

What makes it really mental, that all of this was crystal clear years ago to anyone with half brain. All of this was absolutely expected.

Now that the energy consumption has increased for the weekend by a good chunk, I can't see how overtake mode is feasible this weekend.

Could F2 pole be faster than F1 pole?

Passing is going to come down to clip rate--the car that slows less from recharging. The cars will all slow as they reach the end of the straight (tf), and who clips less hard for less time gets the pass. The anti-climactic effect will be of epic proportions. my god.

A mess indeed! #-o Pretty typical of MBS's reign of terror at the FIA tho.

and it's been cancelled
Massive U-turn by the FIA as the change to the straight line zone has been cancelled after pushback by teams and drivers - so it's business as usual heading into FP3, However the whole situation is clearly not satisfactory, and teams are not happy.

Drivers would have de-rated so hard without the SL mode that T9/T10 could be taken flat out
