This forum contains threads to discuss teams themselves. Anything not technical about the cars, including restructuring, performances etc belongs here.
I seriously doubt mercedes customer teams are getting the same spec pu as merc.its always better to be a works team if you want to win champions
agree. Unless you draw the engines, the supplier can always provide inferior products to their customers
The regs require that the Manufacture offer all their teams the same specs. The teams can refuse a new spec but it has to be offered. If they do not, and it's discovered, they can be disqualified.
They cant just turn up the engine for a couple of quali laps. They have to run with the same engine setup on the race also.
And what does that tell you about their intentions in the race?
They got faster just understand the package and setups. This ecu "tune" still very conservative, you can clearly see from the telemetry data.
Alonso had to be reminded to brake earlier, 100 meter mark, into the first corner to charge the battery. So I think alot of the gain was from Alonso just learning how to drive these cars.
The car IMO is going to be a championship winning car, already a Top 10 & possibly will make some Podiums.
Look @ the analysis of FP1/2, In Medium turns it was almost @ par with Mercedes/Mclaren & quite near (few tenths off) in quicker corners while losing so much speed to carry into corners due to a weak engine. The only part where it seemed slower was the slow turns where the estimation was 4-5 tenths lost, may be higher. Not surprising, a 10kg overweight car is 4 tenth’s odd slower, 15kg is 6 tenths. This is after no optimisation, no running, no set up work. You can find tenths in those across all sectors. Like RB did in 2022/2023 odd when the few rules came in, if Aston can lose 10-12kg by mid season, this car over the corners has the potential to the fastest. The car is a thing of beauty, the way the suspension & wishbones go. There are a lot of clever details & it has got good development potential. I agree with Newey when he said it is already a Top 10 car without the engine & he estimated it was 7 to 10 tenths off. That can come just through weight loss, upgrades & setup. You can get multiple tenth’s if you have a decent running in an optimised setup like how Alonso found today.
The in FP1/2 was losing between 2.5-3s on the straights. I am sure it was much better in qualifying but if Honda would have given a competent engine you can get multiple seconds in the straights & carry more speed through the corners.
I would just focus on getting a competent engine first. Adrian Newey IMO has a great car which on pure car characteristics can well be ahead of Mclaren & Ferrari & can absolutely challenge Mercedes in time. The engine though is a different story.

But how do you enforce such a rule i doubt mercedes customer teams use same compression ratio trick as merc.there topspeed is inferior

Also because McLaren is a customer and therefore in no way justifies Alpine's performance.

I agree with you, among other things, the car wasn't even well configured in terms of setup. Hopefully, Honda will provide a competitive specification as soon as possible.
DLR said they had to carry additional weight to help the battery and with the vibrations.
Anyways just watched the qualy replay. Think a lot of people will quit watching f1 if that first qualy session was anything to go by

Yes, Alonso already hinted too that they will not finish the race because they have to protect the battery for China.
Sakura said they want some good improvement for Suzuka. Seeing the car today and how far ahead Merc is, Honda might be actually in a good position for improvement in the second and final thirds of the championship. If that is the case, AMR26 could be fighting for top5 finishes in some races.
The car will gain 80hp in China or Suzuka(well rumorus say not sure) with the fix fully implemented as the one running in Australia is makeshift with only the batteries.

Not the battery, the chassis cause remember they did mention that a proper solution has already been sent to china, they running with a makeshift one here(basically about certain dampening material bolted to the chassis and the engine making the car heavier. However is the makeshift system fails it can cause the gearbox to break or worse burn the car losing parts that actually work. Since Alonso knows there is a different battery, no use wasting any more. There could be a grid penalty already though as they ran through 2 energy stores here. Unless its the engine that's getting the upgrade and the battery already upgraded and just needs fine tuning.
Edit: my bad the new unit for next race. The batteries are apparently a replacble unit. As FIA or scrutineering showed only Russel with new pus parts.
