I very much appreciate the approach by the team. I know the deficit is deemed by many too large to come back from, but the mentality to fight is desperately needed. Even if they don't make it this year, they have an entire winter to improve the engine again.

That being said, this rear wing should be a gamechanger for them. Every addition in drag reduction means more battery efficiency. This could be a dramatic gain if the reports on the effectiveness are true. This circuit should really suit the car from what we know, so maybe we can begin to hope for a fight on our hands.

If it can bring them closer to Mercedes it will be great. If Mercedes still have more in hand & it doesn't really impact the gap, it will still be great if it distances Ferrari further from the ones behind.
As Xyz22 said, if it forces Mercedes to expose themselves more it will force the FIA to maybe look a little closer.

Yep, exactly. It forces Mercedes hand to some extent, and will help reveal exactly how much pace they have.

If they're not quite as mighty as they appear, Ferrari has a legitimate chance to compete with them in China.

If they are sitting on more pace, it'll force them to show their hand, which will work to other PU manufacturers' advantage vis-a-vis ADUO.

Looking at the Chinese circuit testing the rear wing makes complete sense. There are mostly 3 SMs and the third one will be very small. This should test the actuators for rear wing

Bringing beta testing wing to sprint race ideal? In 2024 they rushed the upgrade after monaco win since they tasted wcc and in Spain that upgrade failed.. hope they don't do same mistake

FIA has a torque meter on the drive shafts. No one can hide anything.
Do we know how they calculate the magnitudes? Is it the average over an entire race, or is it a single Q3 best lap?

Essentially, what options are open to Merc to limit the % difference to Ferrari/others?

And if Bahrain and Jeddah are cancelled, is the ADUO for Race 6 shifted back?
These are good questions. Unfortunately I don't know the answers

If I could speculate, I don't think the ADUO would get pushed back. There is nothing in the regulations which says that is possible.
Thanks.

Ferrari already working on a new engine based on a different concept. The current plan is for next year but could be introduced this year if the ADUO will allow it.
The engine is not up to par, unfortunately. I legit expected the contrary, a good engine and bad aero.

I wish. The gap is much bigger this year unfortunately

The efficiency increase will not only increase the straight line speed, but also make their deployment and harvesting better. In my opinion, Leclerc or Hamilton can win in China. It is low speed corners (T2, T3, T6, T9, T11, T12, T14) and straights.

I am also expecting it to be way closer between Ferrari and Mercedes in China. Mercs are probably untouchable in quali, but if Ferrari straighten out the problems with the deployment, they should lock out the second row at least. The start will probably see them take the lead as well and then we should have a battle in our hands.
That wing (imo), puts them in front of Merc in all trim. It is worth 4-5km/h on straights. That is double digit horsepower gain.

I think Australia exaggerated the difference between Merc and Ferrari.
The counter argument is that a large part of the Mercedes advantage seems to be deployment strategy. It is really difficult to calculate the best way to deploy and harvest in Shanghai. If you do it wrong you will overharvest and won't be able to harvest into the hairpin, which would come at the cost of both braking power (assuming rear brakes are indeed tiny) and battery on the start/finish straight.

Right but everyone got to study Merc's deployment strats in Australia. Merc had to give the game away if they wanted to win. I would hope others learned something...

Isn’t every single manufacturer working on the next PU already?

The engine is good. I don’t know how people come up with the contrary just because it’s not up there with the engine of Mercedes. Even Lewis said that the Ferrari PU is strong.

The key is that they are changing the concept of the ICE completely according to the report.

What are the next expected developments?

It's just a rear wing. It's not a whole planned car update. They can always replace it with the standard rear wing after practice(or even during) if it really isn't working, and then continue to develop it for originally planned release. Small cost cap hit for the extra manufacturing, but not a big deal in the larger picture.
