I also don't see why aero efficiency is being brought up, the car is like that for years. They don't prioritize top speed so they tend to suffer if they are behind a slightly slower car but with good top speed. Luckily this year you can use energy to make overlaps so I feel this will be less of an issue.
It is actually worse this year. An in-efficient car uses more battery power to reach the same speed as a more efficient one. As a result McLaren runs out of juice faster than the others. They can barely gather up enough charge to use overtake mode in the races because they use so much.
I don't think that is true. Cars last year were also limited by energy (fuel). The only important metric is laptime. If a car is faster over a lap it is by default more efficient over a lap. This could be by going through corners much faster but then lose out on top speed.
Top speed is not the most important thing, especially as recharging at the end of straights is prefered way to charge.
