Might be painful now but in essence you’ve got Adrian Newey able to watch the whole field and their ideas from afar whilst he keeps cooking his ideas.

Think Aston may well reap the benefits, assuming Honda can deliver the engine eventually.
Its questionable that Adrian Newey has been working for Aston lately.

Wasn't there a report that he had been hospitalized? I don't think it was serious, but there was something going on recently.

Krack said it was one day, he'd been working from home afterthat...That was like before the Miami GP.

Will take alot to get into q2, fighting with haas, Williams, audi for it.
Also rain expected tomorrow so who knows what kind of setups they are running.
Edit: yeah, 19 and 21...
1.8 second gap with this power deficit is actually impressive.
They are definitely improving the integration. Zero updates and the gap has shrunk from 4s to 2s to the leader in qualifying.
Something to do with the gearbox is exacerbating Honda's deficits, specifically on the regen side. That much has been hinted at by several team reps now. That the downshifting and how it is done in this era is drastically different "for several reasons and will be a problem for us for some time" (Krack).
The engine still sounds terrible on the onboards. Horrendous vibration noise ever present. Was curious if the integration work at Sakura was going to improve it, but not even slightly. I was cautiously optimistic after Sprint Quali. But the race and main quali was depressing. Stroll's deficit to Alonso in every session is also outrageous. And I have serious concerns his general demeanor and "non-specific, overly generalised feedback" won't be helping anyone at the team, who then also won't say a thing about it without causing issues with the boss... I fear it'd be a shockingly restrictive, overly cautious environment for the staff unfortunately.
It's likely the bulk of the improvements have been made and it won't be till post Spa we see any slight change at all now. All the while Cadillac, are making noticeable steps forward every single weekend which is actually nice to see..

This performance improvement is an indication of the significant impact of the aforementioned problems. By solving them and starting to optimize things, they've taken a big step forward. Moreover, they can make even more progress in the transmission area. If we say that half of the 70-80 hp power deficit comes from electric regeneration, then perhaps 30-40 hp of the deficit can be eliminated with these efforts. Maybe the current package has the potential to be improved until the difference is reduced to 1 second. Who knows?

ALO said yesterday "perhaps we can get 2 tenths more from this package yet until the new one arrives".
So, It seems that is almost full optimized.

I don't get gearbox problem. The clutch is only used at the start after that it's all gears...so no slippage. Maybe the ratios are wrong?

Completely different tracks. Compared to Miami, half as much of the lap time is made up of slow sections. That’s why what happened yesterday happened: he’s trying to push beyond the car’s capabilities to make up time in those slow sections, compensating for all the time he’s losing on the straights during qualifying.
no-one is disputing lack of power ,but team cant just fold their arm and say they lack power ,redbull showed over the years what you can do with chassis even if pu is underpowered.the team has a plan i quess we just has to wait in these era of budget caps.
You can’t do anything with 80-100hp deficit and a poor gearbox anyway
60-40 will only make it worse for Honda if the fuel doesn't improve either.

You'd think they'd release analysis of the different fuels being used.

Weird one with stroll, the fia document says they changed energy storage (battery i suppose?) and control electronics without FIA approval so pit lane start instead of grid drop.

Alonso up to 10th in the slippery conditions. Crazy. Hoping for more rain.
