Problem is, the RB’s probably held Max up more than the others.

Lawson let Lewis through easily at the last turn.

They were battling it out for a lap and a half ahead of max before he got through

The RBs shouldn't have held anyone up - they weren't racing Max, Lewis, etc., so should have jumped out of the way. Lawson was right to let Lewis through. He should have done likewise with Max. This is an old problem, however, as midfield drivers are battling just as hard as those at the front for points for their team. (One might argue that they really are battling for their teams whilst the guys at the front are really only battling for their own points (being title hopefuls)).

Hadjar did help Max and hindered Lewis which is almost ok as at least Hadjar is Max's team mate, although I'm not a great fan of this type of stuff.

The pole time was faster in 2026 than in 2022. /Lots, lots of caveats follow/

The style might not be to everyone’s liking, but I’ll preemptively counter that there was a time when F1 was considered to be about power, with aero only ruining it as a gimmick.
And the discussion was power, not combustion based power. It was power winning races back then.


And I’ll throw in another point of comparison: in those glorious days when the meanest turbo was what won races, that combustion engine had wildly different levels of power depending on boost. Meaning that it produced different power at different points in the weekend, and at different points of the race, and even at different points of the lap.
It also had this thing called turbo lag, sometimes measured in seconds, that meant that the same pedal position produced, say, 300HP halfway through corner exit only to then produce 1000 HP early in the straight, with the exact moment of change out of the driver’s and the pedal’s control.

Drivers instead of AI managed the job though...

The new cars are lighter and have moveable aerodynamics plus very strong MGUK. Those three items are just a plain advantage on these cars in certain situation.

Also ground effect was done poorly by most teams in 2022.
