slowly it comes out

Right, because Toto Wolff is known to be an honest, transparent, apolitical TP.

Did Vasseur actually say that? The only source is Speedweek which in turn claims that it was out of an interview Vasseur gave to AutoHebdo. However, nothing can be found about this either on AutoHebdo’s website or on their YouTube channel. Also, no other motorsport website has reported on this.

Don’t you think that such a spicy statement, especially with specific figures about performance differences, would have been reported by many others as well?

The funny thing is that in the original Speedweek article Vasseur was also quoted saying "But Mercedes is still well ahead, at least as far as the engine is concerned." - This does not sound like one or two tenths.

During last Autoracer demo, Duchessa said that Ferrari ADUO 2 upgrade will be worth twice the first one, so around 8-10 hp.

Doesn’t sound like a lot. But then, I’m now honestly a bit baffled about what the state of play is across all these engines and whether we have a big deficit or not.

My interpretation is that the ADUO 2 upgrade is expected to deliver roughly DOUBLE the gain of ADUO 1.

ADUO 1: 8–10 hp
ADUO 2: 16–20 hp

In tracks we will see everything. If suddenly Ferrari is on par with MB in straights, we have our answer but i don't believe this will be the case.

The first ADUO update, introduced in Austria, delivered 7 hp.
The second update, expected at Monza, is reportedly to add at least 15 hp (around 11 kW).
The gain could be worth over 0.2s.

At Zandvoort, a significant development of the chassis – first introduced in Barcelona and subsequently refined – is expected. (worth 0,2s)

It is interesting to see the driver dynamic coming to the fore in Ferrari. Many thought (myself included and stated as such) that letting Sainz go was a mistake because bringing in a multi-world champion would inevitably lead to one of them to be in a stronger position points wise than the other, and decisions would have to be made EARLY in the season to not have another 2007 situation. It’s an impossible situation now…for you have the sweetheart of Ferrari who made a covenant with his father on his death bed that he would win the championship, and he would win it in a Ferrari. Its like the entire tifosi made the vow with him…and then…you have an aging champion falling out of his prime and knowing he must win now, not in 4-5 years commitment to the team. Choose one driver or the other now and the entire ethos of the team becomes disillusioned and splits the fan base between the newcomers (who are there for Lewis) and the die hards who will never relinquish their sweetheart. They have to choose one to really have any chance, and yet that opens a door that won’t close for maybe 2 years if Lewis goes to 2028.

This all will carry into 2027 like a bad dream that won’t end should the first loser or lower position await them at the end of this season. IMO, Lewis no matter what will want that 2028 seat especially if Alonso finds re-birth at Aston Martin. Chuck just resigned for more years. There is no good decision at this point for Ferrari, and any choice made without a championship trophy at the other end of it, will be “the worst” of the rotten choices. There is no other option but to start winning a lot right now with the whole team behind one guy. That’s the only chance they have and neither driver will cooperate with that situation I don’t care what the contracts say. Championship loss this year will immediately lead to ENDLESS blame from BOTH sides sour from the wrong “obvious” driver choice (at that point) made now. This will actually be interesting to watch play out.

Good luck Ferrari. The choice made now is going to draw out for another 2 seasons.

Ya shoulda’ kept Sainz.

So you’re saying they have to pick a driver but if they do, the drivers won’t listen? I don’t know if I fully agree with either point but, let’s say it’s true that neither will play ball, then surely there’s no point picking? You’d just be upsetting everyone for no real benefit.

IMHO 2008 is a better example than 2007. They’re fighting against one driver at the opposition right now as Russell has so far been more of a Kovaleinen than an Alonso (albeit neither really fit perfectly). While Massa and Raikonnen taking points off each other arguably ultimately cost one of them the WDC (vs Lewis who always got McLaren’s top points, albeit primarily just because of performance not team orders) they did still win the WCC that year; one could make the case that neither would have been performing as well or pushing the other to go quicker if they didn’t think they had a chance at the title. If, for example, Raikonnen was the entrenched number 1 (as world champion and early points leader for Ferrari at various points) then Massa, who ultimately scored more points, wouldn’t have had the chance to show everything he had.

I think their only practical choice is to let both drivers go for it - with sensible racing rules and team orders to maximise team result at a given race, irrespective of driver - and then only pick if/when the maths truly make it obvious. There’s every chance that the ADUO + chassis upgrades put them in a place to go on a proper run and, if either does that, that driver will suddenly be in a great position. Lewis’ points advantage over Charles would be all-but eradicated if the reverse Barcelona happens (ie Lewis gets reliability DNF in a race Charles wins) at which point we’d all say it was too early to have backed a driver.

That there is the major point of the thought exercise I suggested.

They can't let both go for it because neither driver will comply and it would split the team and fan base not to mention the disaster it would be for the driver who had to play Barachello. It's not an option, but it's the only one that leads to the championship top step. We all saw this when Lewis signed. It's the core reason why they shoulda stuck with CS. Now that ship has sailed, and they are where I and some other predicted because its the obvious common denominator with the decision they made to take Lewis. Due to their driver choices, they can't do what they need to do to win. It's truly incredible they either ignored this, just blindly denied it would happen, or just decided marketing was worth more than winning and if they happen to win, even better. It's a dead end and a core reason I question the leadership of the team, namely Fred and Elkann, and have for some time now. They need one driver now to have a chance. Right now. 5 races from now it will be FAR too late. This is 2007 or worse and the real fallout from 2025 starts in December.

This situation is very exciting to watch. \:D/

I don't know about exciting... I just want Ferrari to be sensible and not have any regrets after the flag drops at the season closer.

Lewis is in front but Charles is very competitive mentally and I don't see him supporting his teammate to win! It will be too much for him to take and for sure he will be mentally scared going into the next season.

The best way for this to play out is for the both drivers freely fighting and Ferrari being in range of the WCC and then if there are two races left and one driver is more than 20 points ahead his teammate MUST support.

The first ADUO upgrade introduced in Austria delivered 7 hp, while the second step, expected in Monza, is estimated to deliver at least 10 hp, or approximately 7 kW. Without compromising reliability, the gain could be worth just over a tenth in Monza and slightly less in Baku.

That’s not really transformative (and much less than the big chassis upgrades are delivering at the moment). Kinda surprising as it’s supposedly including a bigger turbo and making a major architectural change for 1 tenth seems a bit odd. You’ve obviously got to push every thousandth but I’m surprised as earlier in the season we were told it was 50, 60 bhp in arrears - suddenly now we’re saying 17 bhp is all they could catch up (and perhaps that’s all there is to catch up?).

Did compression ratios change things? Did Ferrari turn things up after the ADUO assessment ?

They were given 2 ADUO "tokens".

Of course at the beginning of the year there was a ton of propaganda, typical of italian media. Honda, who started much further back, are struggling to find 30 hp from their upgrade. It's not that easy.
