Sigh. Four weeks of anticipation for this to happen.

Apparently the rear wing didn’t open the whole lap. But why would that cause vibrations?
Separate issue. So he had 3 issues. The rear wing didn't open, the vibrations and rear braking. Even though he was going slow, the rear wing was closed(didn't open), he still couldn't stop for turn 1.
He's last anyway. Make changes and start from pit lane. Focus on Quali and GP.

At what point do we start to question whether Newey really is still as good as everyone thinks? Perhaps his approach no longer works as well as it once did.

Too early a judgment for a session where everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. FP1 ALO time was better than cutoff, so at the bare minimum same as Hungary, and most likely better.

In addition to the rear wing failure, I think they messed up the tire prep.

Oh not this again. Aerodynamic knowledge is knowledge. Some people just have a deeper understanding of science than others and ones who don’t understand that concept of how knowledge works, always talk like it’s a skill you loose. There is a reason the super star faculty in academia just know more as they get older. That never really goes away. Newey is one of the greatest aerodynamicist ever, he hasn’t forgotten laws of aerodynamics lol.

Pretty certain he didn't design the internals of the "ARM" nor do we know the cause. I saw them refilling the hydraulic stuff in the garage...

So there are major software issues, rear brake issues, vibration issues, and rear wing deployment issues. Anything else that I am missing?

If they had software issues why would it hit only Alonso ?

I left F1TV on CAR 2 after SQ1 finished, because I had something else to do. For some reason about 10 minutes after SQ1 finished the camera came back on the car. Alonso wasn't in the car. You could see the Mechanics open a door just in front of the drivers seat and plug in what looked like a black hydraulic tube. It looked like they were represureizing the hydraulics. So, there are signs of a hydraulic leak that might explain everything. It would lead to gearbox, rear wing, braking problems, etc.

AM and Honda are still far behind other teams in terms of PU/Chassis integration.
Lot of work to do.

Before you start jumping to conclusions, let them tell us what went wrong.

Thought they were going to penalise as Honda's Zandvoort report mentioned changes to the electric side, but maybe those aren't hardware/parts? I might have been wrong then.

Autoracer say Honda will be 15HP at first and "intention is then to get to the 30hp initially planned, if reliability and performance confirm the data seen in development."
What a joke…

Team statement:
Later in the day, Sprint Qualifying saw driveability issues arise for both drivers, including Fernando's rear wing not opening and resulting in lost lap time. This unfortunately meant our drivers concluded P19 and P22.

The team will now analyse this data and use it to inform decisions for Saturday's sessions.
Lance:
"I think there was more there today. We were struggling with the driveability, and there were a few other things that weren't quite right, so we need to understand why. It's really windy out there, but it's the same for everyone.

"We'll go through everything tonight, look at the data, and try to make some improvements for tomorrow."
Alonso:
"Things seemed to go okay for us in Free Practice, but then we experienced some driveability issues in Sprint Qualifying, and it was difficult to stop the car sometimes.

"The rear wing didn't open for us either, so we lost lap time with that. It's very early days with Honda's upgrade package, so we'll try to understand more in the Sprint."
Both drivers plus the team talking about driveability problems aka Honda software I would assume?

AFAIK, Wasari said in the Honda forum that for them to completely fix the vibrations, they have to revise the engine mounts aka new chassis, which is not something that has happened yet. It might not happen in this season in general...

Alonso:
We had uh yeah problems on the on the engine drivability was pushing on the brakings. So yeah, it was difficult to stop the car sometimes because the engine I think was overdelivering. Uh and then uh apparently it didn't work the SLM for me. So I could not open the rear wing. Um so yeah, combination of both made the the laps very tricky.
