The gap between the Ferraris and the Mercedes can be attributed to the straights: there is a difference of 0,3s to 0,4s between the SF-26 and the W-17 on the straights.
Monza cant come soon enough
If it is claimed that Ferrari is "faster in the corners", then it is because they have more downforce. More downforce = more drag. Drag is energy consumption. There are only 2 SM zones in Zandvoort. So Ferrari waste more energy around the lap. Its not a 3-4 tenths PU deficit. We have already discussed this. They have an air restrictor on their exhaust. They have more aerodynamic energy consumption.
Not an aero expert, but AFAIK it's important how they generate the DF, if they have more (comparing to others) from the floor then it's more efficient.
Don't get me wrong, I do not want to say that You are not right.
Also even with the new ICE FER shall be down on power about 20-25HP if assessments are right.
For Monza I expect they'll abandon the air restrictor on the exhaust (for that race only).
However I don't expect miracles in Monza, just limiting the damage, if MERC and McL have regular/excellent race 5th/6th are realistic, with having in mind that Max can be strong also.
I think that the team at least for now has excellent developing path, I hope they'll preserve it, coming with the PU more on pair with MERC and FORD for the next year.
Loic Serra is TOTL expert for vehicle dynamics and I think that the results from his work are yet to come.
Team must stay focus and work hard and we'll be easily in the fight for the WDC next season.
Since there is a strong positive trend, I am satisfied with the work by the team until now, hoping they'll continue in the same manner.
PS Who am I to be satisfied with their work!!! I am saying just like an 40 years long FER fan, before that Alfa Romeo
