So the driver who only finished ahead thanks to a lucky VSC is clearly faster ](*,)
Are you really going to casually ignore Leclerc holding up Hamilton for two whole laps for no reason other than being selfish?

I don't want to discuss who was faster overall in the race. I'm discussing this specific moment in the race, which easily cost Hamilton 2-3 seconds that could have put him on the podium.
I love when hamilton fans finds out that Charles is not a Bottas-type (second driver) of a driver, Lewis could even start properly, and he got lucky with the safety car.
Besides, It’s good to see Leclerc smell the stupid things from the team. That’s how it should be.

Let’s ignore the my favourite driver favouritism comments - both cars had similar pace with similar aged tyres (whenever one had the offset, that one went faster). Charles was held up behind Piastri for a long time and that impacted his tyre life, the same thing in reverse happened with Lewis at the end (and the real killer blow was that VSC just as Lewis was about to get past).

But the real problem was Ferrari strategy. We were clearly much faster than Russell in clear air and they repeatedly missed opportunities to undercut - if they’d got Charles past Russell at the first pit stop (or even the second) we would have had track position and Lewis could have gone long without Charles there. That was what messed this whole thing up and then there was further mismanagement from there (why they pitted Charles at the VSC is beyond me - seemed like it was to satisfy Lewis or something).

Not good weekend all over because the race pace was much better than the result…again!
Agreed they messed up both drivers and Ferrari also didnt help Charles with the pitstops, all of them were slow. Overall a complete mess from Ferrari imo

CL16 fans are really scraping the bottom of the barrel with narratives to excuse il predestinato. They even want to take into account the overtakes he made.

I don't give a damn about race pace, who was the fastest over the weekend, or VSCs that might have helped a driver. What matters is the finishing position, and specific race events can cost important points, especially when they are caused by a driver's deliberate and stupid action against his teammate.

Hilarious driver management by Ferrari, not surprising though, I've been seeing these things for more than 15 years. Another race they should have won, another blow up.

This has happened at other teams as well, lets be honest. It happens when you have 2 of your drivers really close on track.

Not everyone has the benefit of a Bottas/Perez or a Piastri alongside them.

Not sure they could have won but at least one of the cars should have been on the podium

In a normal world, there would never ever be a situation in the middle of the race where Lewis is right behind Charles. The team screwed up today.
but, you don't want to admit that. They just want a BOTTAS on the other cars, someone that will move over when Lewis is right behind.
They even want Charles to box, knowing it was a stupid strategy. It's all about Hamilton with them.

Its clear that today Ferrari costed Hamilton that 2nd place. Keeping him behind Leclerc for 4 laps was crucial. Not only that but Leclerc almost crashed into Hamilton in the last lap. Finally I totally agree with edu2723. Apart from the first stint Lewis was the better driver all race.
Giving your faster driver a worse strategy is a Ferrari special, unfortunately.

No one thinks Leclerc is a Bottas-type driver. This isn't RBR where the second driver's primary job requirement is to be slow. It's Ferrari! They've put two people who can actually drive in their car...as the WCC shows. If anything, Leclerc is on the same sort of level as Hamilton's other team mates. You know, the other WDC's of his era?

Be reassured it s wrong teammate on both sides. They also want Lewis to box everytime without a clear strategy. They sleep on the wall until the driver questions them. The day Hamilton will behave like Leclerc divebombing because he has nothing to loose, I think Leclerc will think twice.

Charles:
I would have liked to stay out on track for longer. We’d discussed before the race what our preferences were, and so on, and that was my preference.

Then, the team initially asked me, at the start of the lap, to come into the pits, but at the end of the lap, they asked me to stay out on track. So that’s what I did. And I think two laps later, I finally pitted.

The only thing that bothered me a bit was that, effectively, we were putting pressure on Russell to pit, so that we could stay out longer and build a gap thanks to the tyres. And in the end, he pitted two or three laps after me.

That meant I found myself five seconds behind Russell, with tyres in more or less the same condition, having made our pit stops at roughly the same time. From that point on, it meant I was, in a way, committed to finishing behind Russell, and that’s mainly what bothered me at that stage of the race. But anyway, we did pit, and that’s just how it is.

they screwed up his race... once again.

The usual gross treachery from the team against Leclerc. Taking away the position from him and giving it to the teammate.
Bringing him in when it's too early then calling him in for an extra pit stop when not needed. Also wasting one position to Russel.

I'll tell you one thing: We lost a podium because of Charles Leclerc.
The team gave away the position so they can get Hamilton in front of him.
Your deluded. Hamilton was like 2 seconds a lap faster.
That doesn't entitle him to be granted Leclerc's position. And there's no excuse for the second pit stop.

Ferrari needs to have a serious talk with Leclerc: Make it clear that his role until the end of the season is to help Hamilton as much as possible in the championship and GET OUT OF HIS WAY when Hamilton is clearly faster.
Leclerc was faster this race...

Don't forget the extra pit-stop to kill Leclerc's race. Same as in Monaco, when they forced Leclerc to also serve Hamilton's 5s penalty.

Sabotaged it to be frank. He should have ran from here as soon as Hamilton was contracted as Elkan's darling.

Embarrassing strategy.

Doesn’t really matter though as McLaren will dominate next year. They are already winning despite big compromises due to bad choices during development.

Lewis Hamilton is currently P3 in the championship, not Charles Leclerc.

In any serious team, at this point in the championship, the drivers' hierarchy would be clear, with one having a chance at the title and the other not. Mercedes has already relegated Russell to Antonelli's wingman now that McLaren has improved and let him pass without problems.

Leclerc's hyperfocus on H2H cost the team a podium today. Tomorrow it could bury Lewis's championship chances. Leclerc himself destroyed his chances of being on Hamilton's side in the championship fight with five bad races in a row. Now it's too late to react.

At this point, Leclerc helps Ferrari more by helping Hamilton score important championship points than by trying to achieve a high result himself, getting in the middle of Lewis and, through stubbornness and selfishness, costing both of them race positions by driving hard unnecessarily against Lewis.

Do you know the best way to avoid becoming a Bottas 2.0 and being demoted to a wingman on the team? It's to avoid losing important points at the beginning of the season so you can be on equal footing with your teammate throughout the season and receive equal treatment.

You might be impressed by a driver who doesn't easily give up a position to their teammate at any cost in any situation. I'm not, and neither are the team managers, especially when the driver's focus is solely on that during the race.

That part of the race where they left Lewis out 3 seconds off the pace who was at the time helping Kimi stay ahead of Lando with the DRS was the most bizarre part of the race for me :wtf:
