Ferrari had a clear number 1 driver from the moment Schumacher signed to the moment he left the team and they haven’t done that since then.

If Hamilton wants that kinda of treatment Ferrari will have to adopt that policy once more and hire him a less talented driver as a number 2

As always happens during the Italian week, these days there's an insane pumping of Ferrari here in Italy, based on which you'd think they are going to dominate the race and the rest of the season.

With the highest of respect, it's this sort of attitude that will be exactly why Ferrari won't win the WDC.
The way you win in Formula 1 is by building the fastest car on the grid, not by imposing some obscure team orders that make little sense while driving a slower car.

Lots of Hamilton’s fans are conditioned to expect handouts because of how things were at Mercedes for years, not happening here, winning will have to be done on merit. No gifts.
There is a certain irony in a Ferrari fan lecturing Mercedes fans about team orders.......lol

FWIW, I do not think Ferrari should impose team orders. However I do think that they should agree what will happen when the two drivers are on different strategies. Both drivers should agree that they won't hold the other one up. The team comes first after all.
This is really it, if the drivers are going to cross paths on different strategies make sure they both get it.

He doesn't want that. What he wants - as does every driver on the grid - is the team to give him a chance if he's faster than his team mate at that point. Every driver says on the radio to the team "I'm quicker than my team mate" when he knows he's being held up. That's universal.

Not every driver gives back the place if he's unable to push that pace advantage after being let through. Hamilton has. Max famously told the team to do one when they asked him to let Perez through, for example. And, no, Hamilton isn't perfect in this regard either. Charles is likely to find his attitude will bite him when he does need his team mate to move over for him. Goes around, comes around.

In the case of Charles and Lewis, it’s completely unclear to me which is more capable of going on a run if the car enables it.
Do we watch F1 with blindfolds on the last 20 years?
I’ve watched them both as teammates the last two years and that’s the only direct comparison I can make. Leclerc has never had a dominant car but has shown himself capable of stringing wins together when the car allows (5 out of 8 of the first races in 2022 saw him in a winning position - reliability and strategy aside) and, of course, Lewis can do it but time does not stand still. So the point is which is more likely to be in front of the other more often than not? If you’re telling me that’s clear, then I think there’s an obvious bias.

Anyway, don’t want to be drawn into driver yin-yang - this thread is about the Ferrari team.

Any of the A list drivers in F1 can dominate if they have the fastest car by a margin.

And not when they don't. Ask Max.

A lovely comparison is drivers that have beaten reigning or future world champion team mates. Only one of those exists on the grid today...did it three times.

Not the lesson I drew from 2024 and 2025. Unless you don’t consider Lando A-tier. I think he looks pretty good though.

Could we have a separate thread for this "Which team member is better" endless topic?
This rendered this thread unusable to be honest...

Funny to speak about drivers, picking a side and say I don't want to get drag into drivers discussion. Let's enjoy this race hoping the wall stops following politics first approach.
