Almost did it, improved S3 and brought it below 31s, still not enough.

Pretty promising for Red Bull this session. Max played it a bit safe in S1 on his final run so there was a chance for pole. Lando and Kimi took some big risks over the kerbs and touching walls at a couple of spots. He has a new set of softs for the start and that should play into the inevitable Red Flag/SC roulette. A win is possible. The best thing was actually Lawson's performance - the car looks visibly easier to drive with the rear suspension changes and this should be a massive boost for the rest of the season.

Who would have thought this, a few pages ago this season was a write off (which is to some extent still the case). If they have improved balance that should also help tyre life.

I wonder whether they have turned up their engine a bit after the ADUO measurements. Reliability seems still great so a bit more power is may be possible.

I want to understand how the strongest ice has the weakest deployment. Mercedes clearly charges more. But how? If your ice is better you can regenerate more. Where is the double whammy?

I'm interested in that as well! I could only guess all on the electrical side may be less efficient and software may be a big differentiator as well.

I hope Redbull accepts RB22 the way it is and runs their suspension softer for the rest of the season. The whole package works when the car is running soft (miami, Monaco, madring)

Take the high speed penalty by running soft and not try to stiffen things up to balance out high speed cornering losses. Hopefully the experimentation phase is over.

Daz who is a redbull insider/employee mentioned sometime back that redbull lacks track characterization data. They got nothing from honda. Hence deployment struggles as others come prepared while redbull has to go through trial and error.

I expected madring to be better for the team as everyone is in the same boat in terms of not having characterization data of this track.
I learn from the mistakes of people who take my advice...

It was other topic but it was interesting that Max was saying that if there is lot of turbo lag you can spend lot of energy filling it in. This was more on context of having correct gear but it also sounded that gearing could be important for deployment.

Combo of what seems like a bigger turbo and more lag that needs to be torque filled by deployment and less training data for the software which leads to sub optimal decisions. I think here they were over deploying in S1 for top speed and reaching S3 with less available to punch out of the 90 degree corners.

Norris would have been up by 3 tenths
Russell and Piastri don't demonstrate the potential of their cars.
Leclerc crashed last time and couldn't use his new engine.
Hamilton is said to have made a mistake in the 1st sector.

That's how you get Max P3. Credit to him for being consistent from weekend to weekend where others are not because that's all Red Bull have at the moment. The balance was good according to him. The car simply has a lower ceiling to the others when aero and PU are accounted for. Lawson has been a better driver under these regs than Piastri and he is in P8. Very little has changed in the running order. It's been a dice roll every weekend which of the drivers from Mclaren/Ferrari/Mercedes underperform.
Working on the balance.

Yeah probably sofware too. I think Max also said it after Q that they would liked to change deployment on S3 but their software is bit rigid and they could not

"efficiency" of the power flow between mechanical and electric, involves things like magnetic hysterisis losses, IR losses, porportion of energy lost as heat from the chemical reactions in the battery cells itself (not counting the coolant circulation aggressivity required to remove heat, which in turn consumes some engine power).

Plus, nevertheless, I think Mercedes HPP's ICE is no way going to be 'inferior by 2-4%' w.r.t the Redbull one. That's pure BS. I for one, have no doubts that the engg group within FIA can easily be 'fooled' by the big brains working for actual F1 teams, and 'spoof' the measurement metrics to record an 'inferior than actual' performance output.

Yeah, its strange. Maybe different battery chemistry, so merc can deploy better or regen better somehow?
