After the Sainz incident, only chance was a safety car to regroup the whole field. Then again downforce loss due to contact and almost impossible to overtake due to engine deficit means even if it happened it wouldn't have mattered much. But no luck anyways. Weekend to forget (as will be what remains of this year with few exceptions)
Cronin said there was already damage from contact with Stroll. Sainz just made it worse.
Sainz hit Alonso's wing twice. Once on the very first lap and again later.
Stroll just hit the floor with his front tire on the first lap.
Alonso did 23 laps on the soft with a damaged floor. They didn't stop cause the tires were worn out just they were not gonna catch anyone. So I'm not sure why you don't think that Alonso couldn't have done 40 or more laps on the soft had he not had any damage and there was a safety car or red flag.
