Mclaren MCL40

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

That's a big update for this late in the season, I wonder if this hints to something they have been working on for next years car, and they discovered they could easily fit it to this years car or whether this has been planned for a while.

Do we know why they are not running the spinny RW at all when they were supposed to run a new one?

During FP1Lando had the Madrid wing, with classic opening system. During FP2 they installed H wing on both cars.

Rob Marshall said the new package is behaving as their simulations predicted, which is a positive start, but they haven't unlocked its full potential yet.

They can carry over most components to next year, so it makes sense to develop it for as long as possible.

Apparently McL is going to develop a new chassis with longer wheelbase for next year, so I doubt there will be much carry-over. Maybe they just want to compete.

"Even if our car might get a little bit longer, even if conceptually the suspension might change, everything that we're learning this year is very much relevant for next year. So, we're very keen to keep developing the car for as long as we possibly can."

as mentioned, the concepts and knowledge can easily be carried over, even the car gets a little longer

What would be difficult about carrying things over to a car that is a couple of millimeters longer?
