Merc engine using 2 different oils- thoughts

Post

Well with merc supplying 3 teams, 2 with mobil1 and there works team with Petronas.

How do you think this will affect engine performace. We know mobil one have a fairly good grip on the engine since they have been there for a while. Petronas on the other hand is new to the engine and am sure there doing all they can to suit the engine. But what is merc goin to do. Will they tailor the engine for Petronass oil line affecting mobil1.
I know all about the engine freeze but am sure they can tweak
something. Mobil1 surely won't be given as much technical info from here on out

Any thoughts

Nope, Petronas is just sponsor, Mobil is a technical partner to Mercedes. Fact that Petronas is oil co. doesn't mean a thing. Engines are developed together with technical partner that supplies lubricants. All Mercedes engines use Mobil oil. Just like all Ferrari engines use Shell (remember Sauber Petronas Ferrari). Will anyone officially confirm it? No.

For PETRONAS, the partnership will enable the oil and gas giant to generate sustainable business growth, particularly in their downstream lubricants market, through the strategic partnership and business alliance with Mercedes-Benz, one of the most prestigious global automotive brands.
It is not correct. Petronas have entered the sponsorship in order to gain the business from Mercedes. In the future all technical developments will be done with Petronas instead of Mobil 1. McLaren can obviously continue to use Mobil 1. Over time they may be excluded from ongoing developments though. I have my doubts that McLaren will be using Merc engines beyond 2011. In 2010 and 2011 McLaren will pay back the price for the Merc equity and at the end of 2011 Merc will quit to be a share holder. From 2012-2015 there is no guaranteed engine supply, only an option.
Formula One's fundamental ethos is about success coming to those with the most ingenious engineering and best .............................. organization, not to those with the biggest budget. (Dave Richards)

So, Mercedes developed engine for Mobil oil, together with Mobil experts, and now they'll just pour in Petronas oil because they made recent sponsorship deal and risk everything? That just wouldn't work, and there's no chance that Mobil would sell oil formula to Petronas.

Having in mind the money Petronas gives, they'd be the first ones to say "just put our sticker on the car and continue using Mobil, but keep it quiet". They are in F1 for good promotion, what good would it do if they'd use their own oil no matter what, and perhaps have engine blows all the time?

Modern F1 is about money, for years now, it is a competition of global corporations named "Put sticker on the best car for less money", "Buy good chassis and repaint it in our colors" etc.

As if there were any secrets in the lube business, "That's just what ugly people wants you to believe", as they say.

Was Patronas the reason we saw so much oil out the back of the exploded BMW lumps last year?

Nope, BMW traditionally uses Fina lubricants (just another Petronas sticker), and Fina is Total brand, while Lubricants USA are now Total lubricants, and ELF is Total too, so I guess there was a great usage of Durex lubricants to get all that merging done.
