Mercedes GP MGP W01

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

If thats it then I'm left dissapointed.

In fact, is it even different?

Why would you even bother with the old one this late in the game. I mean FP is tomorrow.

I was expecting a pure silver diffuser extending over rear wheels and crazy wings. Just based on this picture, it does not look like anything new - nothing like a major evolution over last year's diffuser, but just a patch-up to make it look bigger... :(

Please Merc give us something new.

It has new mirrors... and a tweaked nose (tiny flaps just in font of the cockpit)

Given they have never tried it, maybe they will run FP1 (or at least some of it) with the old one so they have a benchmark. :?

Exactly. They'd have to redo scrutineering if they changed it. People are too quick to judge. The floor could've changed completely with larger slots feeding the diffuser we can see. Remember that Brawn have been working on the double diffuser much longer than everyone else and there is only so far you can go. Inevitably, the more developed it becomes the less room there is for radical change.

EDIT: Also, there is so little time to get used to the tyres etc in the bahrain heat, there is no way they're going to waste time doing back to back tests. Tomorrow they have to set the car up so it works on both low and high fuel. There isn't time to fart around with diffuser comparisons.

I can say that´s it, guys.
Don´t worry, it´s not the size that matters but how it´s feeded (now)

If that is the one, then its identical to last years from the outside. Unless they got that part of it spot on you would have expected some change.

I agree though, for all we know the underside of it or how its fed could be totally different.

The diffuser is not really the same (the upper deck has gurney flaps)...

I agree with Bonjon here, I don't think theyve got enough time to waste the whole first session with diffuser A, and the fit and re-scruitineer diffuser B for Sess 2. What we see, is what they're running. Now maybe there is stuff hidden within that we can't see, or maybe it's true that Merc have been sandbagging and RB has been indulging in some skillful physcological warfare regrding the new stuff....
